I need to get the cummins sold then trade the flatbed in on it probably or keep it. In a perfect world id sell the cummins, either trade the flatbed or pay it off and buy a brand new truck and something cheap to build

Had ourselves a good time at mikes. First impressions of this converter are good! We will see with some more time under it and “not paying attention to it”. I’ll be driving it this week and then towing a heavy load up north Thursday

And Anthony is bad influence. It’s good your ass don’t live closer

That truck is big. I love it. It has power, it's quiet, and a TQ monster. James says it's 10" longer . Try pulling into a parking space at your local super market with that monster. Then try and back out.
Anyways, it was really cool hanging with my young whippersnapper buddies.
A lot of good memories with these guys.:thumb::hug::D

Wish you could have made it. It was very informative. I learned how to watch porn upside down and how to go up a hill in a LML when it's stuck in engine limp.:roflmao: These kids are smart.:hug::D

Looking forward to the updates and “growth” of the converter impression. Very excited to say the least and it’s not even my truck

Spent 5 days up north with fish and many other close friends. It was actually COLD and damn did I enjoy it. Beat on the tracker and road quads with my little ones (Brooklyn is getting real confident on her quad finally).

Going up, god damn does this thing pull awesome. I am extremely happy with how this 10 speed just keeps it in the power band.

There are 2 long grades that can get these rigs hot. The fan never came on till the end of the second grade at the steepest part. Coolant finally got to 220 and oil temp to 226. It’s hard to hear but that fan came on and that coolant temp dropped like a rocket down to 190*. It shut down before I had even reached the top. That’s pulling the grade flat to the floor since the bottom running 2600-2700rpm the whole time in 6th gear at 63-65mph.

Now I won’t lie... I have the derringer in the truck and frankly after his video I don’t care to have it now but at this point, there’s no changing that. It states you can run lvl 3 continuously so that’s what I did. I tried stock vs lvl 3 and there is about a 5mph difference pulling the hill.

Watching gauges, these things run HOT egt’s. Stock or not, it runs 1450-1500* at the manifold under wot and high rpms. It will not go higher than 1500. Either the stock probe doesn’t read higher or that’s as far as the ecm limits it. Runs 27psi of boost on stock and 30psi on lvl 3.

On the way back home today, I played with running less throttle and trying less rpm. Started at the bottom of verde hill at 70 and kept it in 7th gear at 2400rpm. Using 3/4-7/8 throttle it will hold 70 just fine up the grade at 1350egt and 210 coolant temp. Something stock does not do. You feel the additional torque from lvl 3. I pulled the hill in 7th st 70 til the last 2 miles of the steepest part. Had to kick back to 6th and speed just slowly fell to 65. I mean, caught and passed a Prius up it so that’s a win .

I seriously like the cruise control holding speed when towing, does all the downshifting for you to hold speed. I found myself not nearly as busy in the driver seat having to watch this, play with that, tap trailer brakes, manually downshift/up shift, monitor speeds, etc. it made dealing with traffic coming back today much nicer.

Converter is going to get its own thread and write up in a couple days. I need to watch a few more things and give mike a run down first .

Sounds pretty good. I wonder about those EGTs since GM rated the older trucks at 1350* IIRC. You going to get a mechanical gauge in it?

Na I don’t see the point. Stock is reliable and works well. It’s what the ecm is using so that’s what I’d rather see.

I find it interesting that it does not meet what Gale claims their derringer does for egt’s as they discussed it vs the pulsar.

Beast. Imagine trying that hill with a mid-90's 454 rig.

been there... and with a 93 6.5 diesel.

the 93 6.5 EC/LB 3500 pulled a 25ft travel trailer with 3 ATC's in the bed (had a custom platform to put the ATC's side by side, like a snowmobile bed rack). we were lucky to do 45-50 up the hills. we upgraded to a 92 35ft Alfa toyhauler in 97 and towed it once up north with that 6.5. 35mph the whole way with 4 quads now inside. we maybe grossed 12k at the time, alfa put us up to 14k.

in 97, parents ordered a 98 GMC CC/LB 454 3500. put a 4inch lift on with 295/75R16 tires. pulled the alfa up the hills at 45-50mph. my dad would not hold it flat to the floor, hed back out of it in 2nd gear and just hold speed. later that year, it got a whipple 2.1 supercharger. pulled 70mph with no issue till outside temps were above 100, then coolant would start to get hot and hed slow to about 55-60. later, parents bought a 2001 weekend warrier 40ft 5th wheel toy hauler. we were now grossing about 20k with 5 quads inside and the 454 with the whipple was struggling with coolant temps and grossing 19k during the summer.

aug 2001, Dad picked up his 2002 dmax (my old one in my sig) and we pulled the same trailer. Hill speed dropped to about 45-50 again BUT fuel mileage was way up, no temp issues, quiet (at the time) and he loooooved how it kicked the 7.3's and 5.9's asses his buddies owned.

in late 04 they bought a motorhome for us to travel in and heavy towing stopped with the trucks. i bought the 02 in summer of 06 and rest is history lol.

So ive got a real good base line of the early 90's to today of towing heavy/large haulers :roflmao:. Needless to say, this truck f***king kicks ass over those old trucks, even grossing 26k im at now.

been an interesting past couple months.

Link to what happened over the 4th of july weekend

And to pick back up, codes on my truck came back on that monday into work. i left the codes and took the truck into the deal. They cleared them, updated ECM with an update that had nothing do with injector timing codes and sent me on my way. I asked why it wasnt looked into further and seems that due to the TSB on those codes, they need to see if they come back. I told him i have screen shots of the 5 different time it threw codes along with the freeze frame data. i dont think the service writer expected that and just asked i drive it again till they come back. i said ok but it leaves me on the side of the road and we will have issues...

so i park the truck till we go up north camping 2 weeks later. Hitch up, headed up the rim towards Payson and enjoyed just how god damn well this thing pulls. 65mph with the 5th wheel and 2 quads inside. Just blowing by other trucks/trailers. Fan would hit full blast at 225* and knock temps right back to 200* and cycle. man that is nice just to keep your foot in it and have no worries.... or so i thought. got to the camp site and "oh hi there, its me again, the MIL (not to be confused with MILF :ROFLMAO: )". sure as shit, injector timing codes for out of range and retarded on all 8 injectors. i leave the codes and enjoy the weekend. We head home and truck runs fine the whole way, just sounds like a damn LB7 at stops. by time i was backing the trailer in at home that evening, i could tell something was up. Exhaust was smoking white at idle and you could tell the DPF was HOT! great... work was busy as hell so i didnt get a chance to take it to the dealer till that thursday. Drop it off and he calls me at the end of the day (same service writer ive been seeing) that they got it to throw the codes again after clearing them, also found an air leak as it threw an air leak code via the O2 sensors, fixed that. Went for another test drive and threw a DPF full code and went into limp. they brought it back, did two back to back re-gens, got down to 4 ppm in the DPF and went for another drive. now 10 miles later, same DPF code and limp. Tech was pretty sure the DPF was shot inside and needed a new one. of course, those are on back order and no sign of when they would ship. SW tells me he has another truck thats been waiting on a DPF for 6 days so far.

Now, im sitting here going "well that makes no sense, if its throwing injector timing codes, IMHO the injectors are causing the DPF to back up or melt its self, its not just a bad DPF". in the mean time, i need a rental and they have none. so i bug the SW each day looking for one and finally 2 days later, i just go down there because i dont think they are going about this right. Now at the time, i was not told they did 2 re-gens, they got it down to 4 ppm in the filter, and all the other tests the tech did, just that it was bad and needed replaced. So i storm in pissed and start grilling the SW. he doesnt quite have the answers i need so he asks if i want to talk with the tech. HELL yeah! So we go back, he introduces me to him and we start chatting. Im trying to think how to ask him why he thinks its only the DPF without me sounding like a dick. he dont know me, i dont know him and i sure as hell know from being a mechanic years ago how this goes down lmao. I basically just explain to him what ive seen and the full history of the codes. he agreed it could be injectors but he has another truck with the same exact DPF codes and no injector codes so hes gotta start there first. At him, he says, you get a new DPF that the injectors may have hurt. totally agreed with him but i just said, i dont want to hurt this one either. he agreed and told me his plan to test on the highway a few times and put about 100 miles on the truck. Perfect. In the mean time, SW finds me a sweet chevy trax :ROFLMAO: to rent and i head home.

took about a week and a half but GM finally got a DPF for the truck to the dealer and they threw it in. took it out and tested as he stated and no codes. i pick it up and its idling smooth, no rattle, and feels nice to be back in her again. Awesome! but i still have my reservations this isnt over yet. i dont trust the injectors but time will have to prove that.

Just a little update on her. Seems DPF's might be an issue and was also told the cooling fan will not kick on like its suppose to with the a/c on, causing high head pressure on the a/c and turning it off. mine has not done that but it mainly sees highway anyhow.

I just had to order an injector for an L5P (2018 with around 85k miles) because it had a bad fuel knock just off idle and worse coming back down to idle. When I called the dealer to order the replacement, I asked about it, and he said they've been selling quite a few just in the past month. My buddy's dad has an L5P with a knocking injector, a buddy of his who hauls hot shot with an L5P lost a motor because he kept hauling with a truck that had a fuel knock (probably needed an injector), and there are a lot of people online claiming to have replaced or need injectors. I'm wondering if they're going to end up like the LB7 and be plagued with injector problems.
