Have Forged piston been proven reliable for a daily driver? What is a ballpark price for a set not coated and installed? Also what is the likely hood ti will trash your block if you crack a piston?

I heard there is a truck out of Merchants that is fairly high mileage with forged pistons.

The cost numbers I've heard are about $1,200 a set plus rings.

The stocker LB7/Y's seem to hold up pretty good under 800 hp and with the right tuning and injectors.

To Install a set of pistons without doing the whole shabang might not make good sense.

It would be a good time to put some rod's and stud's in as well.

If I owned a shop and you asked me to install a set of forged pistons, I would say it would cost you about $4,000 out the door.

To pull one of these motors and disassemble it to change pistons is not a Saturday project. It's a real big deal and lot's of hours. I think GM charges 30 hours just to do a injector change on a LB7.....@$90/hr..could be off a little but it cost a lot of Time/Money once you go inside. My numbers are open for debate.

Actually the Mahle forged piston kit, which includes rings and pins is $2700. The skirts are already coated.

Ross and Arias sell for much less but require double the amount of piston to cylinder wall clearance over the Mahle. :(

So....looking at the cost of new stock pistons, rings, coating & cutting it seems that the money difference is close to the forged price.

Do you still sell forged Mahle pistons? I didn't see anything about them on your site.

No failures yet.

I'll be more comfortable recommending them after we have 20-30,000 miles in a daily driver/performance application.
