update BBC is off at the machine shop...

its getting decked, bored and line bored... mains were ~.003" out of alignment :(
crank is already off getting cut and they are working on re-sizeing the rods..

looks like i will have ~9.25-9.5:1 motor.. for my wagon :D
brought up 2 sets of spare head i had.. one set fully assembled needing re-build.. and a nother set i bought for valves... both were O-port heads one ("781" casting number) is ~250-260cc intake the other aka "peanut" heads are 200-220cc.... get them flow benched with the stock 2.06/1.75 vlvs then do some portign work..

they got a drag strip simulation software here at school... a 3700 car with t-56 2.41 26" tires and a 300hp/500tq bbc and slicks is solid 12 sec car.... shifting at a whooping 4200rpm :)

with the healthier short block i should do better then the 19-20mpg im seeing right now :thumb:

update on my little project..
got my 781 bench flow after some pocket portting in the vlv bowl these are still with 2.06" valve.. i havent touched the actual runner yet.. 290-300cfm would be possible out of the 2.06" vlv....
the exhaust.. the actually valve is smaller then the bowl.. i pick up 2-6cfm over the previouse stock flow numbers... 1.88 would be a big help here...

@ .600 - Intake 285, Exhaust 249

these are the pistons that i will be putting in... speed pro 426s with a-10.5cc dome.. net me about 9.2-9.6:1 pending on how far the piston ends up being in the whole.

i forgot to mention the wagon was on the dyno when it gave up the ghost...

this was the only thing wrong with the motor... i was hoping for sticky lifter... turned out to be piston slap...

how did it blow up? assembly error?

assembly error? try worn out.. you know what piston slap is right?..

it was a junkyard motor i put rings, bearings(cam, rod, main) HV oil pump and a camshaft, valve job, new springs/reatainer/locks, timing chain, fuel pump, into it.

why? becuase i didnt think my worn out 305 that was in the car would make the trip from CA to OH again with the car loaded full of stuff

nothing a little welding and grinding cant fix ;)

any luck finding a block? i still have that one of mine got it all tore down the crank and rods still had standard sized berrigns but the cylinders were all ready punched out for .060 pistons and might be ok with just a honing

pick up a 2 bolt 454 that was already .060 over been decked .010 line bored for 200.00..
dropped it off at the machine shop for a through washing and inspection.. two weeks ago
yesterday.
orders new pistons .060 over speed pro hyper -10.5cc dome pistons with coated skirts and rings for 246.00
trw-8k285ncp30.jpg

121cc chambers (casting 781)
with a gaskets 4.370x.019
-10.5
.015 in the whole

should put me near 9.1:1

looking at running same cam shaft as last time. 208/218 @.050 .475/.500

should be in the area of 325hp/450tq at the tires...

looks like he will be ready for me to pick it up next wensday

my engine is finaly coming together.. got the short block wensday
need to honed the bores out, clean, install all galley plugs again bearings assemble the heads
049 flow 325cfm/182cfm @ .550 with a straight stemed 2.06/1.72 vlv had the exhaust has been opened up to 1.88" havent had a chance to flow them... also had guide put in the head... new valve are undercut stems..

i am hopeing with the 1.88" valve in the exhaust i can get closer to the 80% of the intake which would be close 250cfm on the exhaust

intake is an old 0396 edelbrock egr O-port... edelbrock tech told be this is the predeseeor to the current performer manifold.

pistons are speed pro 10.5cc dome hyper pistons... will know how far in the whole they are in a couple days.. rough estements is ~.015" in the whole.. target compression is 9:1

camshaft im looking at is a 208/214 @ .050 .475/.500 lift maybe something little bigger i like some thing with a larger LSA 112-114* open to options/opinions. 500-550tq and lots of it is what im shooting for..

i got a 80pgh mech fuel pump

got a 600/750cfm edelbrock carbs.. actually have 2 600cfm edelbrock carbs... duall 4 barrels???
rough estimits 468 @ 6000rpm and 88-90%VE is 721cfm... looks like im straight at a 750cfm... 600cfm def would kill top end power but work nicely under 3000cfm..

targets cruiseing is 1700-2200rpm @ 70-75mph much faster and you are really drawing attention to yourself in the midwest
4th is 1:1
5th ls .75:1
6th is .5:1
25-26" tire
2.41 @ 75 is 4th/2400 5th/1800 6th/1200
3.08 @ 75 is 4th/3000 5th/2300 6th/1500
3.23 @ 75 is 4th/3300 5th/2400 6th/1600
3.42 @ 75 is 4th/3400 5th/2600 6th/1700
3.73 @ 75 is 4th/3800 5th/2800/6th/1800

est/edumicated dyno sim gues for power for said camsafts @ the crankshaft naturally
-208/214 @ .050 .475/.500 ~480hp @ 5500rpm ~550lb 2500-3500..520lb between 2000-4500 112*lsa(was dynoed in the blown up motor wiht ~8:1 c/r
-218/228 @ .050 .500/.500 ~500hp @ 6000rpm ~540lb@ 2500rpm with 500+lb between 2000-5000rpm 114*
-224/230 @ .050 .515/.520 ~500hp @ 6000rpm ~530lb@ 3000-4000rpm... 500+lb between 2000-5000 110*lsa
-228/238 @ .050 .540/.540 ~530hp @ 6000rpm ~520lb@ 4500rpm 500lb between 3500-5000... 114*LSA

also think i messed up the rear main on install.... it leaks about 4 drops a minute when hot....... not good.

get pictures tomorrow and a sound clip :thumb:

Get rid of the Edelbrock and throw a 750 holley on there and it will run even better.

if it was a drag/street/strip car... i would have gone that route long time ago;)

how many holley based carbed engine you know that can do 20+mpg on the freeway :baby:

it was 10-13* this am.. fired up with no choke too (current carb is a manual choke):D
