Idk if the ones you had had better insulation than mine, or a previous owner put worse stuff in it... All I know is I'm seeing substantual amount of hear transfer it would also explain the floor boards icing over when going down the road at 10° or colder in the winter, but it would cook you out of the cab sitting still....

TX of course
So what is different about your truck compared to all the other ones of similar model/vintage that makes the heat such an issue? The no a/c? I’m sure there are hundreds of thousands of similar vintage trucks like yours running around that I don’t believe have experienced the same problem.

One company I worked for had basically a similar cab/front half of the chassis in picker trucks that never had a problem with heat with outside temps nearing or past the 100’s. They also ran them in Oklahoma and Texas.

All of our trucks similar to this have ACs that can’t keep up with the temps around here. We have even gone as far is aftermarket upgrades increasing the capacity of the AC to keep the truck cool.

Only thing I can tell you for sure was our floors were rubber with about 1/2 - 3/4” insulation on the backside and the roof had a full headliner in it. Nothing on the outside of the cab that I recall.

The stuff I've pulled out doesn't even stack up to 3/8" thick including the vinyl floor cover..
I haven't pulled the headliner to see what between it and the skin yet..
Doors have little to anything to speak of

I drive around an aluminum box all day, every day. Yes, the floors get hot, but not unbearable like is being described.

WTF is A/C? I have 2-55 air.....two open doors and 55mph! :hehe:

IIRC, there is some 1/2" aluminum-faced insulation on the engine-side of the doghouse, maybe on the underside of the trans floor cover, but not anywhere else.

I think Adam's problems are something else....

By the looks of it lots of heat and a 3 jaw puller. And in reverse you are going to need to wrap the shaft in dry ice for awhile to shrink it and heat the ever loving Jesus out of the gear before you put it on. It looks like an interference fit.

If this is what you need to do to pull the cover for that crack leaking oil I recommend aborting and putting Belzona on the crack. We use this stuff at work and it’s deadly. A loader has been running around for a year with a cracked trans pan with this on it and I sealed some coolant pipes on 20 cyl Cummins last winter and it’s still holding.

Take the rockers and pushrods off. Set the motor on the flywheel housing. Rotate the engine over 720 degrees. Pull cam out
From Josh Land on FB

Since Engine is already out I'm going to do that...

The injection pump gets oil through the timing gear housing.. so either the block to housing gasket is bad or the housing is bad as well..

Definitely get some the belzona stuff to sit in the tool box

I forgot you already had the engine out so ya I’d just pull the cam. Hopefully that doesn’t open up a bigger can of worms for you.......

I would do the wooden dowel down the lifter hole and use rubber bands to hold them up and just pull the cam shaft out. Just on a side note I do not remember the size the dowel has to be but you will cut a slot into the end with a band saw or hack saw so that it will compress into the lifter.

Since it's out i stood the engine up on it's end.. pulled the cam out, found 3 bolts finger tight, gaskets came off really easy, it was supposed to rain good again today so spent all morning cleaning and sticking heat/sound barrier on the floor boards.. got everything but DS from the seat back done.. roughly 36sqft stuck on..
Ordered new balancer.. be in tomorrow
Tried checking timing... Rolled the crank 35° both directions backed 35° then 70° the other way...could not find the TDC hole...
Hopefully Engine will be sitting in the truck tomorrow night
