I’m guessing here but I think the new additives cause the dpf to burn hotter. I can verify this once it arrives, I monitor the dpf temps and they rarely get over 1150 degrees. 1200 on occasion but I have to have a decent load on it, unloaded 1100 is SOP for the 24. My 16 was burning off at 1250 to 1350 so there is a difference in the L5P strategy in burning off soot. I think it’s less effective. My 24 is pissed off and is going into regen twice a tank, this additive better fix it before I do.

They must have changed something in the tuning for 24. My 21 burns between 1350 and 1400, 1402 is max I have seen. I wish you luck with the additive but these trucks create a lot of soot in stop and go situations. I pull my camper a lot for work and get 800+ miles before it will force a regen at 60-70% soot. Unhook the camper 200-300 miles 100% and regen.

I wonder what cruising injection timing is and if it's any different. I can see them playing with the numbers to try and get better passive regens and/or less Nox

Nox and soot are at odds with each other. Lower timing to get less Nox but end up with more soot and vis versa.

Delete a truck and run a 100% stock tune. Watch how smokey that bitch is when you stab the throttle from a stop.

Imho and theory, its done this way for spool up and make the truck feel peppy all while knowing that dpf is there to catch the soot. Nox reduction is minimal, watch the nox sensors when this happens before its deleted, there is a decent spike.

The mfg use the filters to their advantage as well. Its not talked about but they aint dumb. I know plenty of them lol

Took the time yesterday to add heated OSRV mirrors before frost starts to hit. Not having them was one of the annoying things I found about this truck. Plug and play once I got the right mirrors in. Turned out the connectors changed in 2018. Just had to swap my painted covers over to the new set.

On the subject of heated gear, these trucks are real simple to add a heated steering wheel if you don't have it already. I did it to mine. Just need a new wheel and possibly a power supply wire, depending on whether the truck came with it or not.

Yep, read a lot about that. Next on my list of options to add. Mine doesnt have the truck-side harness on the column, so I'll have to run the power lead to the fuse box. Will have to find out the connector part number, too.

Don't want to start a huge argument, but there might be something to this new Power Service gold fuel treatment after all.
Have used it on two full tanks now, and while these observations are only anecdotal without data to back them up, Ive noticed a few things.

1) Engine is running smoother than at any time since I bought the truck last Feb.
2) Acceleration has seemed to have returned. It isnt a total disappointment off the line any more. Not using as much pedal to get up to speed.
3) MPG has remained steady, even with winter fuel. (MPG in this truck is very poor anyway, but it hasnt gotten worse due to winter fuel.)
4) I have only noticed one regen, on the first tankful. I have not noticed one yet on this second tank, and they are very noticeable on this truck.

Again, its all just anecdotal, but IMO it hasn't been money-thrown-away, either. I'll keep using it for as long as I keep the truck.

Speaking of that, I found a '16 gas Sierra the other day that I liked. May go look at it.

If you have the ability to log a before and after EGT, it would be interesting to see if there is any significant difference. Maybe the treatment changes the cetane enough to raise the EGT where it will work the passive regen a little better

!*@&@^%%$%@(@ TRUCK!

P1476/P1478/P24D1 are all back. Tried to clear, they pop right back up, and P1478 is "permanent". That OEM DPF sensor lasted FOUR !*#^@%$@* months.

If anyone ever asks me if a diesel Colorado/Canyon is worth it, I will give them an emphatic, "NO!"

If I didnt have bad luck, I wouldnt have any at all.

Sounds like it's time to put it on a diet
