If I were 70, retired, living in florida, and needed a way to get to/from the golf course, id buy a benz. They are nice safe cars and have always been well built (with the exception of the shitbox W210's)...but I just cant get past the grandpa/grandma image that basically all of the models have.
yeah the AMG benz's are cool, but no awd ruins it for me.

My truck was blown up/taken apart during one of the bad winters we had, and I would have been screwed without awd!!
:My friends' BMW's and my moms lexus LS430 didnt even make it out of the driveway before getting stuck. Even on crappy all-season tires my S4 never got stuck, and with ESP off, it was pretty fun to do awd drifting.
The 2005 and older S4's had a 50/50 (front/rear) split torsen center diff, but the 2006+ S4's had a 60/40 split, so you could actually hang the ass end out in corners. If I still had my (2004) S4, I probably would have swapped out the center diff because the rear-biased center diff of the 06+ S4's make them much more fun to drive with less understeer. I mean, you still have a big V8 hanging FORWARD of the front axle, so its never going to "tokyo-drift" like an M3, CTS-V, or Benz AMG, but after driving an 06+ S4 with the new center diff, it does make a difference.

The only thing driven by the serpentine belt up front is the water-cooled 190amp (!) alternator. Why they put an alternator with almost twice the capacity of a stock duramax alternator in the car is beyond me. Crazy germans.

The B6/B7 A4 chassis was obviously designed for a little 1.8l 4 cylinder. So when they wanted to cram the 40-valve 4.2l V8 in there on the S4's, they had to do everything they could to make the engine as short as possible.
Believe it or not, the engine is only about 18" long and weighs only 430lbs.
Not as cool as these cars, but pretty nice car for a Dad, is the Legacy GT. It can be modded and get some good power. But it's still really "family" style for the kiddo's.:hug:

because its still a mercedes-benz. Honestly I dont personally know one person younger than 35 who drives a benz. If you actually did a formal survey I guarantee the median age of benz owners is WAY older than bmw/audi/porsche/vw

Why not a used Lexus Is-F? Its fast, reliable, and easily serviced. Im not sure what the price for a used one looks like right now but Id think you could find one in your price range. May not be the car for you but its a thought.

I agree, those things are sweet!! I have some track time in them, and they are definitely fun cars when pushed to the limit.
Not to mention, you very rarely see them on the road, so theres a cool "novelty" factor as well.
Damn im jealous, I would love to get some time in the drivers seat of one. For a fun car that still has some practicality you really cant beat it. I go to school in Dallas and theres a black one around campus that says JAP M3 on the license plate haha. Its probably a bitch to keep clean but those things look awesome in black.
