What a nifty idea! With the cp3 outside like that, only a matter of time before they’re p-pumped haha.
I thought it was interesting.

With plans to use alot of the existing parts from production engines and to eventually cast a block, Almost makes you wonder why GM didn't try this.

Not to mention the interest from out side parties and the potential for contracts to build it.

Oh no I agree. It is a great idea (maybe nifty missed the mark lol). It’ll fill a niche right along the 4bt Cummins.
GM had a huge market with the 262 v6 which was a 350 minus 2 cylinders.

Yup. I don't know enough about the current small displacement duramax engines, how ever the current design which requires pulling the trans to access and do the maintenance on a belt, is just not service freindly. Not to mention a costly repair if your purchasing the vehicle 2nd hand. In my opinion also makes the vehicle less desirable and likely hurts resale.

So far the manufacturers that have gone to wet belts, in my opinion are seeing increased warranty claims. I dont see how it's a net positive from a cost perspective to go to that style. I understand saving space, but from the failures I have seen on other brands, you might as well junk the vehicle. When they fail, you have no choice but to repalce an engine. Even my experience with that Ford that my uncle purchased.... the majority of them don't even make 100k miles. Used Motors are more than a new replacement long block and 1/2 the cost of that vehicle. Unfortunately he was upside down on the loan and no way to finance another vehicle.

Any of you guys see the Half Max from Wagler?

This is the kinda shit GM should have been doing. They are experts at reusing stuff from multiple platforms. This is right up their alley. Would be perfect for 1/2 ton trucks, Tahoe's, etc. same parts as it's big brother so cost should be low to develop. Turbo would obviously need to be sized correctly. New crank and block of course. But so much else is the same

I bet for a standard non competition engine, it should have similar specs to the 3.0 LM2 engine. Possibly slightly less HP but a little more torque. It would probably cost GM half the cost to develop and build per engine as the LM2

Break into the international market with it and they can sell the other half of the engine to those who drive on the wrong side of the road ?

I can see one of those Indian clans plopping it on the back of a skiff
You mean those guys in sandals in a dirt floor shop repairing an engine crank shaft by welding it up and grinding it down and reassembling it without any cleanup? Washing parts in diesel and no gloves? Those guys? ?

It would probably make an excellent boat engine. Where's Ken? He needs to put four of those things in the back of one. Then call it a 4X4 ?

I wonder what ECM they are using. motec?

Speaking of which, Dave's Auto just did a major service on one of those new 3.0L where they changed the wet belt....

Yesterday I looked at 19 Ford F250 XL 6.7L diesel that needs it injectors replaced with only 120K miles...

I leaned on that unit at PRI for a couple minutes I believe.. When I see billet, my brain automatically goes to never enough cooling passages for marine use. But that one looks to have some potential use.

My Ti longtail boating mates will literally slap the biggest junkyard turbo they can find on whatever diesel 4cyl or V6 they can bolt up to those straight prop shafts, if only to see how fast it will go. Some tourist will gladly pay for a hell ride at 90mph down a camel no wider than the boat is long.. I'd love to take Voodoo over there and show em what a pair of OG V8 Duramax runs like, compared to what they call a Dmax...

Several of those guys follow my build videos. And we both believe dirt floor builds are the best.. :p

I imagine they're all related  Half the time I see them building engines outside too
