LBZ: Pro Stock Diesel Pickup Build

Thanks! I was beginning to wonder if the win light was burned out in my lane ;) Definitely won't be this season, will post more about it later but I managed to fracture two ribs just as my eye was healing up! That wiped out another 2+ weeks of being able to work on the truck (finally healing...

Not sure, I was too busy trying to clean my eyes out! He's probably still out there rolling coal and posting on internet forums from his mom's basement... Not that I have anything against Fords (I am a longtime Powerstroke owner, which I tow with and bracket race). However, I swear the dark...

LBZ: Pro Stock Diesel Pickup Build

Episode 29: Sorry for the long time between updates, I'll go into that a little more towards the end, but suffice it to say that life got in the way again! Back to the firewall structure, I realized that the tube I was working on at the end of the last update would have an exposed end, and it...

I think my TIG welding skills have definitely improved, it is obvious looking closely at the chassis which were the earliest welds! I thought I had it down reasonably well from building the jig and practicing on scraps, but I wasn't prepared for the thin walled tubing AND trying to weld around...

Sorry about the bandwidth issues, I may have to step back up to Photobucket Pro (although I wanted to find another option since their upload function is very glitchy and crashes too often). Episode 28: I had a little bit of a side project to complete, as racing season was here and my Vega was...

LBZ: Pro Stock Diesel Pickup Build

Episode 27: Remember that 4130 chrome moly sheet and plate I was ordering for the firewall last episode? Apparently someone at AircraftSpruce.com's shipping department has a sense of humor. Pretty sure even the worst UPS package manglers would have had a hard time hurting 4130 plate. After...

Thanks! I did at first, but now I don't want to know! I just plug away, a little bit each day.

    12/16v battery's

Good to know, LOL, they were probably chasing a different problem too! Hmmm, will have to decide whether to try 16V on my truck, but will probably start out at 12V since that's what I run in everything.

    12/16v battery's

I think Brad ran into a problem trying a 16V battery on the new Willys, the ECM did not like the high voltage. May need to run a DC-DC converter to get back down to 12-14 volts.

Episode 26: I was nearing the time to order more 1" tubing to form the structure of the firewall, so I got back on the CAD system to figure out how the plates of the firewall would be positioned, so I could order that material at the same time and save on shipping. With the amount of engine...

LBZ: Pro Stock Diesel Pickup Build

Episode 25: After maneuvering the gusset/mount into a few positions, I figured I would tack it, weld it, then cut off the excess; On this side I welded it in several short beads (making sure to not overheat the bearing in the nearby strut top mount). On the other side I was in such a...

Shooting for early in the 2015 race season (June or so), but earlier if things go well.

LBZ: Pro Stock Diesel Pickup Build

IMHO this is why there are chassis from "expensive" shops that work well, and from other shops that don't work as well! I'm hoping all this time and effort makes mine handle more like the ones from the expensive places! The good news is there is no rocket science to it, but it is a lot of work...

LBZ: Pro Stock Diesel Pickup Build

Episode 24: Sorry for the lack of updates, too many things going on between work and other racing, but finally getting more time on the race truck. First off, a belated "Thank You" to all who attended the Pacific Coast Diesel Nationals Presented by ISSPRO! While we had scorching heat in prior...

Sorry, I didn't see that there was a response here. I'm using the Hughes Performance XP5 Lockup Pro Mod Powerglide. I'll cover some details on that in the next entry.
