Spotted that line on time-lapse radar right off. Snow near the coast, then rain bands like a hurricane, right into blizzard + soon as it hit the big mountains.

Imagine trying to drag a wagon across that hill a hundred years ago. Bad week to be a horse...

That's a towel head move right there. Lots of blocking and chains to move steel
He was a white guy based out of central Nebraska..
A flatbed would be smarter, wouldn't it? How are you supposed to load the skids?
Ideally yes flat bed based trailer...regular dry van would be better as the floor is wood or a wood variation vs aluminum rails for a deck, which gives more friction to reduce sliding

Pending number of skids and weight of the skids, they're single height either straight row front to back in the center.. or you wedge them in against the walls so if they slide forward they compress till they blow the side walls out
Mines more specialized for steel hauling as I have 5 places to grab too vs just the rub rail/stake pockets.. with my trailer I cannot use stake pocket as they're barely held on with bolts and sole function is hold the sliding curtain/tarp

Also...found out we hired another driver.. has some 20 years of OTR experience.... When asked what type of flatbed experience he had, said he was/is a farmer.......no steel hauling experience 🤦🏻‍♂️

And I get to train him.. seeing I take care of 90% of the permitted loads, I can put a week's worth of chaining in one day... Get him trained with no short cuts/loopholes.

I move 800-1,000k pounds of steel on a 5 day week with 11-13hr days.. hopefully he's in decent shape and can show up on time.

Got a feeling he's no touch freight door swinger driver😒.

You definitely have a full plate.

I have so much respect for your ability to continue pushing forward being there for your wife and family. A very big part of me feels like if I were faced with your circumstances I would be curled up inside of a bottle, no good to anyone.

Praying for your family.
Thank you. We are great full for all the prayers we can get.

I have it "easy". I just have to support my wife to the best of my ability and try and keep her sain. If it wasn't for her I would have a hard time living with a decision I would have to make.
I'm not sure if the hospital loves or hates her. She calls once or twice a day and visited every couple days. She asks tough questions to see if they're doing their job and regularly talks with his doctors about what we see and think. We were hoping this would just be smooth sailing and we would be "hands off". It's quite apparent for us to be able to get the most out of it for our son we have to be involved still. That's not to degrade what they're doing at all because we can't accomplish what they're accomplishing as fast without them.
I am happy that they backed off pushing so hard for him to gain weight. I think he's already up 10 pounds. If he packs on a bunch of weight and he doesn't improve significantly one of us is going to get severely hurt.
The reason they focus so much on his weight is because any minor approvement in his "health" is something that helps further justify his stay at the hospital. That's a double-edged sword. Yes it's good he needs the time there but in the end are they increasing the amount of time that we're going to be able to take care of him or decreasing. We don't know what the future holds for him but we are committed to take care of him until we die or can no longer do so.

Hauling coil is fun ain’t it?

We have about 1.5 million pounds of slit coil on the floor here. Cutting it open is quite fun.

Meh, it's a job, pays decently for the area.

I Just keep on top of not becoming complacent and getting hurt. And keeping safety man away from making my job more inefficient and more dangerous. And just doing safety stuff for the sake of safety in a pissing match

True story.

Why we evolved past 6 speed transmissions just blows my mind.

But it’s a money game anymore. Not a reliability game. Also the new trucks are huge.
As I’m sure you know the limo probably feels small compared to the limo 2.0.

Bring back v8 terrible fuel mileage reliable trucks. Look at Toyotas 5.7 6 speed. Sure they have failures. Terrible fuel economy. But damn they are solid.

Speaking of things that should be simple and fast, it reminds me of the appeal of fast payout casinos. You win here and get your money right away - no waiting, no games It’s how things should be.
Yeah, it really does feel like we traded simple, bomb-proof drivetrains for complexity nobody asked for. The older 6-speeds weren’t perfect, but at least you knew what you were getting, and they didn’t hunt through gears every time you breathed on the throttle.

Well I've got a wife that works for a CPA and he's never charged us. Lucky us.
Don't forget your OT Tom.

I did not forget. You'd think a 10 Billion dollar company could afford the software to calculate it and put it on the W2 in compliance with Federal Law, but nope... So had to dig all the paystubs out and do those calcs myself. It did help get about $1200 extra back, though.

I work for a school district that has a $19billion operating budget and I had to do the same thing for my OT.
