you can throw that 480 over your stock charger and make good power still. i ran a 480 over my modded stock turbo with 45% overs and dual pump, made 800rwhp. since then im still running the same modded stock IHI but with 100% overs and a precision s483/96 t6 with billet TCT wheel and race cover. its hovering around the 1k mark now but this is not proven via dyno or track yet.
What is a Precision 483?? Borg Warner makes s400 turbos and Bullsye makes billet tct compressor wheels and race covers for them and sells them as their own. I'd say you have a Bullsye tct s483.

Yes it will hole 3000, the rail relief is plugged. The engine made just under 700 hp 5 years ago now I finally have time to crank it up some more. I’m leaning toward the 64 sx e .90 with a gate installed for a base charger.

Can you please fill out your signature so we know what you're working with?

First go to the top of the page and click "User CP" (short for user control panel). See image 1.

Then click on "Edit signature" in the control panel options under "Settings & Options" on the very left. See image 2

Finally type out your signature and then hit "Preview Signature" to make sure it looks good and formatted how you'd like it. If it is, hit "Save Signature". See image 3

Exactly how low of stall is your converter? What is making you want to go to compounds?

A looser stall may be the answer to your troubles of smoke levels at low boost/unlocked conditions.

Do yo have a trans tune for the larger single to keep RPMs up?

I would definitely look into a new converter with a higher stall speed. Something in the 2300-2500 RPM range would be a good place to start. Goerend makes some nice options as does SunCoast.

I want to say the stall is around 1400 but i can’t remember. The reason I want to go compounds is for towing and dragracing not competition just for fun on the weekends, and I would like to meet my 800hp goal with as little smoke as possible.

With proper tuning, the turbo you have will do very well for towing and is capable of reaching your power goals, but if you are set on compounds, they will definitely do it better than the single turbo you have now depending on what setup you go with. Either way, I would change out that converter. It is nowhere close to what you want for your truck. Way too tight for anything other than a stock turbo.
