Having been through it myself, it aint fun. Glad they made it through relatively well though, 15 years later and mines still getting worse.
Dam hard to believe someone could survive that. Says something for our trucks...

I've always kinda wondered what happened to you, Ferm. Was it an OBS truck? Head-on type collision?
I was riding with a friend and we hit an oak tre head on at 60MPH in a KIA SPECTRE. We hit so hard the back end of the car crunched forward from the enertia. I spent 8 days in ICU after 2 surgeries, and another 9 days in a skilled nursing unit. Was told I would never walk again after it was all said and done(this was after they had told me to say goddbye to my family when I came to that I wasn't expected to make it through the night), 9 weeks later I walked. I took it as a mission to prove the doctors wrong and do all the stuff I used to do. Unfortunately time caught up to me, and hit me like a ton of bricks. The wreck happened when I was 20, and at 32 I started downhill, at 35 I have 3 surgeries expected this summer, and who knows how many more to try and just keep me comfortable.

Any other pictures of the truck? Looks like a half ton? Was it directly head on? Looks kinda offset to the passenger side. I would say a front seat passenger would have not made it.
Sometimes its hard to tell which damage is from the accident and which damage is from EMS cutting the vehicle open. I wonder what it looked like on scene?
Honestly, I would say luck was on his side. When you're in an impact as severe as this, vehicle dynamics and crash engineering can only do so much, then physics takes over...
This is one of those accidents where maybe hitting the tree a couple inches to the left or right, or at a slightly different angle could be the difference between life and death. Like I said, an incredibly lucky guy. But obviously still quite a bit of GM's safety/restraints engineers' work going into play here.
I would be interested to see the crash data as pulled from the airbag module.
