I am new to the Duramax Diesel. I have had a Dodge Cummins for several years and it was recently totaled by a flood.

I do not know anything about the Duramax and will probably be asking some pretty stupid questions.

I have purchased a 2004 Chev 2500 Duramax with an Allison auto tranny.

For the first of the stupid questions.....I would like to know which engine I have, I have seen you guys talking about LLB LLY? Where do you find this information? My truck came with no owner's manual and I have not been able to find the LLB or LLY on the truck.....Thanks

Dwayne

One way you could tell is from the injectors. If they are under the valve covers it is a lb7 .if the top half is exposed then it is a lly . Probably other ways go tell but this is one way.

The only item to be watching are the injectors, but my buddy has over 100K on the stock injectors without any problems, been using Opti-Lube XPD fuel treatment for quite a few years.
