Once I read that the new 2011 trucks feature upgraded brakes with 14" rotors I asked myself whether it would be possible to upgrade the older trucks 01+ to these new brakes and what it would take.
Sure would be nice if I was able to keep my drop spindles.
Has anyone tried this?

Interesting :D

yes. Different lug from 2010 to 2011. Even the 3/4 and 1 ton have a different pattern

It couldnwork still myabe , but would require some new rolling stock $$.

I think its going to be a lot more trouble than its worth. Not only would you have to buy the original 2011 OEM parts ($$), but you'll have to make custom caliper mounts, adapt the new rotors, etc.

You are better off just buying an aftermarket big brake kit IMO.

Found the info...it is 8 x 180mm....I guess I have to redrill the rotors to my old pattern then :D:D
I think the dually trucks are 8 x 200 or 210 mm pattern. They're different than the single wheel trucks.

210mm They got some better towing with these lug patterns but I think its kinda dumb to have 180 on the 3/4tons and 210 on the 1 tons... Just think it would have made more sense to use 210mm on both

wonder if you could jsut swap steering kuckle/caliper/rotor/hub over from a 2011 to a say 08-10. only issue id see is ball joint tapers and possible different ABS pulse rate but cant be sure till someone tries it or has this info :D. then obviously your rear lug pattern would be different than the front

I'm trying to get my hands on a '11 8x180 rotor. Depending on a few spacing issues it might not be too big of a deal to adapt them. I don't recommend slotting the factory holes, but redrilling is an option.

I'll give a shot at it and let you guys know how it goes as soon as they are available!

That's gay. Someone had their head where the sun doesn't shine.

NO someone had their head where the sun DOES shine. The 8x6.5 pattern with the dia. studs was decided on MANY YEARS AGO....back when the designers/engineers of 2500/3500 pickup trucks didnt even have the faintest dream of a truck with a 13,200lb GVW or 22,000lb towing capacity. ;)

8x6.5 is simply not a big enough pattern to properly handle the huge GVWR and GCWR of these new trucks. So they had to make it bigger. Why do you think dodge is still stuck in 3rd place now with their ratings (because theyre still on 8x6.5 duh) and why do you think FORD pulled ahead of GM/dodge in the ratings/numbers area YEARS ago? (because they moved away from 8x6.5 years ago, duh)

Despite what all you people want to think or ASSume, GM didnt change it in some grand stupid little scheme "just to piss us off" or "to promote and stimulate the aftermarket wheel economy".

It would have saved GM hundreds of thousands of dollars to just keep 8x6.5. Do you REALLY think they changed it just for grins?

Checked and my local dealer already has these rotors in stock, going to run by and take some measurements this weekend. :D
