I don’t have mine handy. I’m wondering if it’s the semantics between GMC and Chevy and not just general GM color codes.

My normal guy was out when I rolled by on my way home so I couldn't see the break down.

They told me 692 was the color code and referenced Beige and Pewter,

Online I see the following descriptions for 692

TRIM COMBINATION LEATHER, LT OAK/VERY DK PEWTER (692);
TRIM COMBINATION LEATHER, PEWTER (692)
TRIM COMBINATION LEATHER, VERY DK PEWTER (692)

dark pewter. interesting choice of color name. charcoal or dark grey would seem like a logical name but I guess it doesn't sell

In the 99-02 they had like 5 colors.

In the trucks 03- up, I believe it was 3. I think one was a Tan color, Light grey, and the Dark grey. I know the avalanche had a black and the SUVs did 2tones.

I believe these are it for the truck 03-07 classic.
52D/52I 522 LIGHT NEUTRAL INTERIOR TRIM COLOR
69D/69I 692 VERY DARK PEWTER INTERIOR TRIM COLOR
92D/92I 922 SHALE/PEWTER INTERIOR TRIM C

Looks like mine is the middle one according to the sticker in the glove box. Is that correct?

I know this is an old thread, but I feel like I have possibly some helpful information.

I'm attempting to repaint all the headliner trim pieces, overhead console, etc. I was having a difficult time getting the paint to stick. I went back and looked at SEM's website for clarity and I noticed that what I was using (Classic Coat 17223) was not compatible with plastic. After watching a video I found an easy way to identify which type of plastic it is. My overhead console in particular has a PP stamp which means it is a Polypropylene type.

So I called and spoke to a rep at SEM who confirmed that I needed to be using Color Coat, not Classic Coat. That led me to my next question. There was no aerosol option listed for Very Dark Pewter. He then proceeded to tell me that for this specific color I would have to have it mixed for me at a distributor. He gave me the Formula Number that they will need to mix it. The Formula Number is: 5382.

So to recap SEM recommends that for the Polypropylene type of plastic that you use the XXX Adhesion Promoter and SEM Color Coat custom mixture formula #5382.

Hopefully this is helpful to someone in the future if needed.

@Daryl LBZ I’ve used classic coat with no issues.
I did have an issue however with the dash bezel using SEMs prep products. I don’t know which one caused it but the texture began to wipe off. This did not happen with my glove box or dash panel.

Yea I'm not quite sure what is going on. I did some more digging last night and today, both online and looking over my parts.

I didn't use any of the SEM prep products when I painted everything besides the XXX Adhesion Promoter. Looking over my parts I noticed that the plastic pieces that slide in and out of the sun visors are a mixture of ABS and another type that I'm currently forgetting. This is different from the other parts I painted.

According to SEM whenever I use Acetone and rub on the back it should melt and smear, and it does on just those parts. According to that I should then use their sand free adhesion promoter. The odd thing here is I used the XXX promoter on them and the paint sticks to them better than any of the other parts I've painted! I don't get it.

I just use a red scotch rite pad and 90% rubbing alcohol and it sticks really well. I had to dye half of my lb7’s interior before I sold it. The dash was a bitch, it would be much easier with the windshield out.

Last night I took a green scotch bright pad with AJAX and scrubbed down a couple. I then cleaned them with mineral spirits, and then 90% rubbing alcohol. Then I used a tack cloth and sprayed the adhesion promoter on. Left that set for 5 minutes and then just sprayed it with 3 coats of the Classic Coat waiting five minutes between each coat. Ill check them tomorrow and see if it sticks any better.

If it doesn't really want to stick, that's fine because they're pieces that wont really be handles often. I would just really like to figure out how to make it stick because I'd really like to spray some other interior parts that need it, and those will see more abuse.

The latest parts I sprayed with Classic Coat don't stick very well either.

Yesterday I got my order from Summit. I ordered the SEM Soap, SEM Plastic & Leather Prep, and since they don't have the Color Coat in spray cans of Very Dark Pewter, I instead decided to order the graphite color in the Color Coat.

I decided to start with the small center console that goes on the roof. I had already painted two other ones I have that the Classic Coat wouldn't stick to. So for this one I used the SEM Soap with the gray scotch bright pad to scrub the part and then I rinsed it with water. I left it to dry and then came back and wiped it down in one direction with the Plastic and Leather prep exactly how they tell you to. Then for good measure I took a tack cloth over the part. Then I sprayed a light coat of the XXX Adhesion Promoter and let that flash for 5 minutes. Then I sprayed a wet coat of the XXX and let that flash for 15 minutes. Finally I sprayed it with the graphite Color Coat. This was done at 2am.

Around lunch time today I looked over the part and it looked great! I could feel the little bit of difference between the one that I sprayed with Classic Coat, and this one that I sprayed with Color Coat. I took it upstairs to my wife and I had her take her finger nail and lightly run it over both parts. None of the coating came off on the one sprayed with Color Coat, but when she did it to the one in Classic Coat, the coating came off, just like every other part I've sprayed so far with the Classic Coat.

Now the graphite and very dark pewter are obviously different colors. I honestly like the graphite better and since I redid my headliner in black it really doesn't matter to me that the plastic parts above my head are now graphite while the rest of the truck is very dark pewter.

So long story short, in my case the Color Coat definitely adheres to my pieces while the Classic Coat does not.
