after replacing my oil pressure sensor my oil pressure at idle is at 75psi cold.

initial thought was maybe there was too much oil so i checked the level and drained a little bit out, but it still continues to be 75psi at idle. i let it idle so the ect's can warm up to operating temps and the oil pressure is still 60psi at idle and goes up to 80psi when the rpms hit 1200.

the reason why i replaced my oil pressure sender was because it blew internally and leaked from the inside pushing the oil out past the weather proof o-ring on the electrical connector.

no leaks, oil level is a little low normal right now.

im out of ideas for right now

it has never been that high ever on my truck, idle psi when engine is at operating temps is usually between 30 and 40 psi.... was.

the thing that bothers me is it goes to 80psi when its at 1200 rpm, dont want to push my luck

The stock senders up to 02 were the same problematic style that they used all the way back into the 80's. Only difference was that the early ones had 3 wires, 2 were for the fuel pump switch. I know that these senders are notorious for false readings as well. My 01 will hit 75 cold at a 670 idle, and holds right at 35 hot idling at 600. At 2000 it will still push right up to about 60, and hit 65-70 at the shift points even with it right up at 205 towing.

are sure you have the right oil sender? 70-80 psi cold is what i see. Cruising is 40-60 psi depending on rpm.

Not sure what wether seal your talking about Danny?

I would put a manual gauge on the PS closest to the front of the block and make sure your reading is correct

what is the PN you used?

Also my oil pressure is alot higher than that:D

picked up my sender from the dealer part#97225635

the weather seal im talking about is the one that goes around the connector to keep debris from doing in there. oil was being pushed up though the sending unit out the connector.

it just strikes me as odd, never has the oil pressure been so high and i have the worst luck ever everything is going wrong for me right now and keeps getting worse :(, i mean how in the hell does an oil pressure sending unit blow

im just worried that too much oil pressure it would probably blow out some seals

it has never hit 80 psi EVER, and now it does it at 1200rpm with the truck at operating temps

I dunno how you did that? I think if anyone should worrie about oil pressure it would be me......I have well over 100 psi at WOT and all I did was blow out the plugs in the oil gally at the rear of the block

So far anyways:D

Oil PSI

70.000 miles burns no oil, runs fine, The oil psi at 2000 rpm is 65 psi at idle its only 30
of corse this is on the highway well after warmup. When its cold it idle’s at 65 psi

Is this normal ?

Just wondering what truck you own?

The spec from GM for a lb7 is

- min warm at idle is 14 psi ( seems low? )
- 1800 rpm = 42psi
- oil relief valve opens at 64psi

I cant imagine the light comeing on at 14psi or people would be coming in all the time because of that:D But i dont know?

these specs are from GM manual for a 03-lb7 maybe the 01 is different?

150psi wow Adam what type of gauge where you useing and where are you reading that from?

The releif valve can only do so much and relieve so fast;) I
