Coolant issue

Hello all, I'm new to this forum. I was hoping someone could point out some potential problems for me. I just rebuilt my lml. Banks l5p oil cooler, new mahle cast pistons, callies alt fire cam, Wagner oil pump, lds reman injectors, lds cp3 and conversion, lds 64mm turbo, remote turbo feed, coolant bypass hose to heater core, etc. Started late Jan and just now getting back together due to breaking my leg.
Started up well, I checked the driver wheel well...looked good. Checked pass wheel well looked good then all of a sudden antifreeze is gushing out the lower rad hose quick fitting. I could be paranoid but the coolant seemed as if it had oil in it. Hard to tell with the clear break in oil. I probably blew a good quart of antifreeze out before getting shut down. I now decided to take the rad hose off to at the very least replace the oring and I only got about a gallon to come out. By the way to overflow cap was tight when it was running.

My wonder is am I dealing with an air bubble? Did I hook a hose up wrong? Is there something wrong with the coolant bypass hose? Could the banks oil cooler be an issue.

I now enough about diesels to be dangerous but yet I have been wrenching on stuff most of my life. Any pointer would be greatly appreciated.

LML and L5P don't have the bleed screw on the thermostat housing like the earlier models.

"Correct" procedure is to pull a vacuum on the system and use that to draw in the coolant.

But you can do the radiator hose squeezing method and bring the truck up to temp with the cap off. Then put the cap on and let it fully cool down. The add more coolant as needed and repeat until it doesn't take any more

Ow my. Thank you for that info. I will keep that in mind. Can you explain how I got the capacity in the system without a problem? Also could you see an air bubble causing the gushing of coolant out of a fitting I should have changed the oring in?

While removing the upper hose to inspect that i have the thermostat installed properly, I'm finally getting coolant to come out the bottom.

Thank you for your reply

If you got 28 quarts in, you'd be a few short of full. That would leave an air pocket

As for the leak. Maybe just a bad o ring

5 seconds of running time. No cap on overflow. Kneaded the top hose, checked thermostats.

So the leak is at the passenger side bottom, at the radiator hose? Isn't there supposed to be an orange o-ring in there? Very common for that to get lost. I've had that problem before on my LMM.

I installed a brand new one last night and same issue. No pressure in upper hose or bubble at overflow but pressure enough to blow coolant out of that lower fitting. Could it be wrong headgaskets or a faulty oil cooler?

Believe me I definetly considered it. Went through all my pictures and verified they are good.... I am recently considering the possibility that I have a stuck closed pressure relief valve. Not sure if it matters but I had it setting around for 5 months, soaked it in parts washer, blew it out, and installed. Idk

I had broke my leg just as I was suppose to be putting the engine together, so everything sat for roughly 4 months
