C4 stack clearance

I bought the gorearend rebuild kit. I went to stack the C4's and there is literally zero clearance. I actually cant get the first snap ring to seat where it supposed to (back futher than the 2nd snap ring)

Been looking for a thinner backing plate online and cant find one. Or thinner steels. Id rather the thicker plate be thinner instead of the steels. I guess worse case I could have it machined down

Another note. The new C1's look horrible.

Goerend measures each stack before sending out, unless you give specifics on what components are being used.... can't help other than say there's nothing wrong with a thinner steel.

Not sure what you're trying to show on the c1?

U see the splines not aligned? Hows its going to slide on the gear?

I'll measure the stack later to day.

They get stuck together like that. Its two clutches in your hand.

Did you put the c3’s in the c4 spot?
Bro... i picked them up before I left for the night and was like wtf. Now that im awake and at work, im laughing at this so hard. What an IDIOT! 😆.

The C3 clutches and C4 clutches were the same thickness. I kept them seperated. The C3 specs were good. .060

You've already figured out the C1 as 2 frictions stuck together, that's very common in packaging.

As for your C4, there is only one snap ring groove so I am a bit perplexed by what you're trying to say. If your C4 do not fit, measure your steel thickness and I'd be happy to send you additional steels to fix your clearance. There is no thinner backing plate required for C4.

Did they perhaps send you an extra selective steel for the C4 that you're trying to add? You should have 6 frictions and 6 steel plates plus the top backing plate that seats against the snap ring. If anything, I've only ever had issues with too much clearance on the C4. It would take a lot to get it so tight you can't get the snap ring in place.

Yea, there is 7 steels in it right now.... does a friction go up against the backing plate or a steel? The ATSG shows a friction up against the backing plate but since there is a 7th steel, I out it in and now theres no clearance. So maybe thats it?20260713_150002.jpg

You will end the C4 pack on a friction touching the top plate. The extra steel is for adjusting clearance. If it still is too tight let me know and I can send you a few more steels to get your clearance correct.

It will take 6 steels and 6 frictions. You will start with a steel against the piston and alternate.

Yea, once I swapped that last steel put, I went in nice. Smh. I was suprised the kit didnt have any bushings or those flat carrier thrust bearings. To be honest, this trans is pretty simple to rebuild.

Your kit came from me and Goerend, you should have Torrington bearings. They’re in their own bag.
