2016 Won't start

Hey, not sure if this belongs in this section. Today I tried to start my 16' and it cranks, but won't turn over. I cracked the filter on the lift pump, and fuel came running out. I tried to walk through the fuse box, but I was in a parking lot, and couldn't really diagnose well with my limited tools on hand. Once I got it home, I again walked through the fuse box. Ultimately, I decided to crack the bleeder screws on the filter housing and prime it, and I was never able to get fuel.......

Ran a diagnostic and it shows 0 fault codes.

Before I jump head first into this mess, anyone have any ideas?

Yeah. It tries to turn over, but it just keeps cycling. Like I said, I cracked the bleeder and no matter how long I prime, nothing. There is fuel at the lift pump. If no one has ideas, I'll remove the feed line post lift, confirm fuel, then keep walking forward to the filter housing until I find it dry.

You might be confusing the two terms. "Crank", "cranking", and "turns over" are typically understood to be synonymous.

Understood. Maybe my verbiage isn't correct. Essentially, when I turn the key to the run position, it tries to start as normal, but doesn't actually start. Just runs through the ignition cycle over and over.

What lift pump do you have? Start checking power for that and keep moving forward.

FASS Titanium. I dropped the suction side (typical priming of that scenario) and fuel came streaming down.

If you don’t have fuel at your blender by the filter you found your problem? Just have to figure out why it isn’t getting there.

Did it die on you or just walked out while out and it was dead.

I was sitting in a parking lot, idling. After a few min., it shut off instantly. I naturally tried to restart it, but it just tried and never did. That's where I cracked the suction side on the lift pump and fuel poured out.

Update:

I pulled the fuel filter off and visually inspected. No real signs of blockage. I did note that the contacts on the WIP looked rough, so I ordered one. While I wait on that part to put that back together, I walked backward to the lift pump. I have a pump that I can draw fuel into when I drop the suction side filter, but there's no fuel from the pump to the fuel line leading to the front of the truck and ultimately the filter housing.

Doesnt mean its working. You need to verify flow and pressure from the pumps outlet

Yeah, I pulled the hose off the output to the fuel line to the front of the truck and it was dry. Tried to cycle the pump, nothing ever came out. I'm not sure if it's a pump issue, or a pick-up/screen issue in the tank. I'm going to drop the tank tomorrow and start working through it.

This is a new lift pump (maybe 6 weeks old), my previous pump failed internally and started leaking fuel out of the solenoid.

Check to make sure your drop tube on the fass isnt bottoming out on the filter. Fass seems to have a terrible time with all the different filters they use. Not sure why it would have suddenly quit on you but its worth checking

Yeah, I'm probably going to end up dropping the tank tomorrow.

Fass also has a problem with picking up fuel when ran dry, too

You may need to fill both fuel filters completely up and see if that will get fuel to start coming out when you cycle the key to get the pump on

I'll keep that in mind. I have to drop the tank regardless, since I need to perform some pickup work in there anyway. In a way, the fact that this is a fuel issue is kind of a blessing because it makes me do something I needed to do regardless, but was putting off out of time constraints. I've needed to install the new drop tube, when I swapped from the older unit to the new, but didn't, because it wasn't necessary specifically, but impacted pedal to floor acceleration only. So, normal driving for the past couple of weeks was fine, but I knew long term, to tow and/or really lay into it, I needed to install the new pickup.

For what its worth, I use a sump when installing lift pumps. I am not a fan of the draw tubes.

Dropped the tank yesterday. Didn't find any blockage in the pickup, but I cleaned everything out and installed the new tube assembly.
