Presumably it would be, but I'm not sure what it's off of. Might be an easier way to find it.

Maybe I'll call PSC to ask

I stumbled across this thread when doing some gearbox research. I ordered the BBB / VISION-OE N5030178 for my LLY from rockauto and have the same issue. Clearly a reman. If anyone has had luck actually getting the new heavier duty one, please let me know. If they can't get this straight, I'll just send mine to Blue-Top.

Update - it looks like you can get this same N503-0178 gearbox with a limited lifetime warranty for $686.99 -10% from oriellys. Yeah its definitely not as attractive as the $420 from rock auto, but 1 - it doesn't seem like you can actually get them from rockauto, 2, lifetime warranty, 3, oreillys are everywhere. I ordered one, it will be at my local store in the AM. I will update with how that goes.

In for the update... I emailed Rock Auto and Questioned why the part was removed. I have an LLY as well and almost ordered one this week from Rock Auto...

Seems like a fairly canned response...

Dear (ADDRESSED TO ME),

We are unsure to why the part you mentioned is no longer an option for your vehicle. All the information we have is listed on our catalog. The part is currently not out of stock so it is available for purchase if you wish to purchase it still. We cannot guarantee the part will fit your vehicle if it is no longer listed for it.

To double check that a part will fit your vehicle, first locate the part by selecting your vehicle's year, make, model, and engine size in our catalog. Then, please read the part description associated with the part. As long as the details noted in the part description match your vehicle, the part will fit.

If you need further assistance, please see our Help page or click the links below:

Does "left" mean "driver's side" or "passenger's side"?

And for those that asked about the ratio of these boxes. I attached the PDF for each box but here is the run down.

N503-0153 Shows a 33 Spline and 3.188 Turns Lock to lock
N503-0178 Shows a 32 spline and 3.25 Turns Lock to lock

And for those that forgot or dont know the difference for each spline count.

33 Spline has 3 flats
32 Spline has 4 flats

Just went to oreillys. Same issue, standard factory style gearbox reman. They reported it to higher so it gets looked into.

I got the rock auto 6 bolt cover box from them last summer. It was as described on there site when it showed up. Have not got to try it out yet as truck is still down for engine build but definitely not a factory reman as everyone seems to be getting now even if ordering the upgraded unit.

That's really disheartening. I was going to try and order one this week but I have been dealing with Evap vent valve issue on another truck.

First I got the wrong style for the truck I am repairing for a family member. Then I ordered the correct part and it comes with a new Vent that is to be replaced at the same time. But there is no cover to hold the filter material in the capsule like shown on the website.

Upon looking the part number up and seeing other real pictures, it seems AC Delco had an issue with the supplier that manufactures it...

Alot of pictures show it missing the cap. But there are a few that have it.

I believe the issue with the New Boxes is that BBB/Vission use an N in front of the same part number to indicate a new part. Some idiot is putting the wrong part in the correct box. Who knows how many are at the different supply houses like that. Maybe if we order and return enough they will correct the issue and will get the right part in the correct box at a decent price.

I saw some of the other parts houses selling the same part but the prices where almost double from what I saw in my area.
And I believe trying other mail order like AMAZON will only net similar results like what we are seeing at Rock Auto. They all pull from the same supply houses that stock these items or drop ship direct from the supplier.

I just looked at orileys again. They really gouge customers. Not to mention how they run there stores and treat there employees... but that's another topic.

The correct 33 spline box for my truck is nearly 2x what rock auto sells it for. And nearly $120 more than the 32 spline box...

Other re sellers have the same pricing for either box. Rock Auto obviously has the best price on it though.

My LLY is no longer my daily driver so I can play the order/return game all day long haha. Ill keep everyone updated on if I get the right one someday!

Neither is my LLY. I have a 1500 for my daily 😂 I can play order and return too as long as there mistake is not costing me money. Mine still works, but I need to rebuild the front end and would like to do it all at once.

Haha yeah I've got a 19 Ram 1500 for a daily now. The LLY is my 5th wheel tow rig. I'm not going camping again until the end of August so I definitely have some time. If it starts getting down to the wire, I'm going blue top. Most of my front end was redone about 40k ago, but the gearbox is getting pretty loose and the pump is starting to whine, so I'm doing a new pump, lines, gearbox, and borgensen steering shaft while I'm at it.

Nice, I DD an 06 GMC 1500. I just replaced the pump on it but there is still a slight whine well accelerating. Seems like it could be something else though. The old one was noisy with a stethoscope. This one is not.

I have a new pump for the LLY when I get around to that. I have not decided which steering components to go with just yet.

Guys, it does still exist! This was what I received from Rockauto after shipping the first one back.

Edit, it does still have markings like it is a reman. Additional picture attached. I think im just gonna try it out. I'm beginning to question if a new one actually exists. Maybe "new" is a core housing with all new parts inside vs just new seals or something? Output shaft appears to be brand new on this with no signs of thread or spline wear whatsoever.

Interesting... I found a broken PSC branded steering Box in my area and was curious if it could be repaired and the cost If i couldn't get a new one of these.

Which part # did you order again? Interested to see how it turns out.
This was the Rockauto BBB/Vision OE N5030178

Its definitely bigger and appears to weigh about 10lbs more than the OEM box from what I found between the first package I got and this one.

If it is tight and makes steering feel a bit easier, for $420 I'm happy regardless of it being "new" instead of new. I did not have to give my core back, so I have that still in case this winds up being a POS.

Maybe the gentleman at Blue-Top or (i think people have mentioned Lee's) could work some magic on it. Where it is different than OEM, I would call and ask them first.
