That’s going to be one nice duramax when your finished sir.
Thanks, thats our goal but it will take time. For 2025 we hope finish the work on engine and transmission. I want give both to a professional shop but none around us will do the improve of engine. For transmisdion i hope still to find a shop in NL. Also the engine was planned by a shop in NL but the owner retiered 2024.... no one take this shop ahead for duramax engines.

Can you send the engine and transmission to a shop in the US and have them built?

It would be cheaper to purchase a rebuild engine and transmission in USA instead sending my drivetrain for rebuild to USA. The freight cost are high.

The new rebuild 4l80e from Gearstar for our cucv was with 5000 Dollar not cheap. To have it at my door was 7200 Dollar at least to pay. 2200 for shipping and taxes...
But i couldnt find any transmissionshop in our area.
I had could buy a used 4l80e in Germany unknown miles on it unknown status for 3200 Euro...
I prefered the new rebuild of a professionak shop.
The old Th400 of the cucv was an easy rebuild which i done myself.
The Allison i dont want touch myself...

This weekend we finished the front axle
He is back on his wheels again

20250104_114813.jpg

We reused the old brake disks as this are wearing parts and still in a good condition
Only the Caliper, pads and brake lines comes new

20250104_133626.jpg

20250104_133816.jpg

the torsionbars was much easier to install as to disamble ?

Now there will be a longer break as we will be working on our second Chevy CUCV restoration project. The final work on the Dakota, sensors and the TCM Compushift from the 4L80e transmission is still missing. We also have to apply the underbody protection.
The Chevy is due to receive its road registration and oldtimer certificate spring this year

But the research for the Allison Rebuild in Germany or Netherlands will be going on.

There is also the option doing service and use engine/transmission in stock condition.
The Drivetrain is in a good condition, just some wearing parts must be replace.

But anyone who follows us knows that we always like to have personalized vehicles not only in appearance but also in technology.

Good idea but smuggling is not worth it considering the penalties if you cet caught. And this is for both sites. I would never want to put a friend in this situation. It is just money and if you choose an unusal foreign vehicle you have to deal with it. A friend restorating an 1980 VW Beetle. All parts are imported from Mexico. He is in the same situation nevertheless it is a german car.

I think he meant that as sarcasm but missed the emoji or other indicators to show it as such. Text can be like that

I had my second hand op yesterday - it will set me back a bit, but after Trump's announcement of imposing 25% taxes on German goods, the restoration will be over anyway. We currently already have a 45% markup on the purchase price in the USA, another 25% increases the US price by 70%. As our goverment will also increase in same high taxes on US goods... We can't bear that anymore either. The price of US cars will hit a low here because no one can pay for spare parts anymore. So the value of our trucks will be low with that. The same will then also apply to the USA. Anyone who drives a German car there will have to expect the same costs. A typical economic war... We'll see what the future brings.

Both sites just made their statements.
Now they will go in discussion rounds...

The Ukraine war has already cost us a lot. and all the refugees and asyl seekers continue to cost a lot of money. All of this is paid for by the taxes of the working population. Tax increases have already been announced from our government. We also had a change of government.

But Trump is not guilty for our other economy problems here like high energy costs which make production in Germany expensive, the increase in social taxes on any wage as the costs in healthcare increase every year, the costs for military or still the reunion costs with east germany where still is much to build up again.... just to list some of them... all paid by taxes ...

My employer decrease employees from 1200 to less than 400 today....
I' m working in machine engineering. This was in the past with some up and down save. But today a lot of give up and close.

I don't want to complain or politicize any further. Let us still have fun with sharing our projects.

The GMC Truck will be our retirement vehicle. I must confess i start to have problems to enter the small C30 with the lower sport suspension of my wife ? Nevertheless this car will stay with us. In our big cities is a small car more handy for parking anywhere. By the way standard park lots are here in germany to small for Fullsize US Trucks.

The Chevy should not need any bigger investment. We can see the finish line in front of us.
Before the Op i wanted to complete the hood but i missed to purchase new screws, so its delay. Screws arrived yesterday. I will stay positive an hope all gaps fit right in ;) My expierence expect a big and fat no ?.

For the GMC want we improvements on the drivetrain with costs estimated about 10000 Euro but he would run also in stock condition. Still i hope we can continue our projects.

Our retirement is 2028 ?

You're doing great work! You could eat off that frame, its so clean. Reminds me of a car restorer's work that I used to deliver to.

Thanks, after roadregistration will using the truck change this clean status. Only a perfect underbody protection will save our work on it.
If we finish the truck will he be like new.?
But it will take a lot of time.

Are lanolin based products like Fluid Film popular in your area?

Yes it is here available. We will use a mix of fluid and permafilm. It was an advice of a local oldtimergroup. We will us it first on the chevy. It is new for us. We will check the instructions and try on a small testframe before use it on the trucks. Just to find the best handling.

I've read of people dissolving wax/paraffin into gasoline/petrol and spraying it on the frame. Gasoline/petrol evaporates leaving behind a film of wax. Supposedly works well

LPS #3 or even Cortec vpci 368 would last longer than the Fluid Film. The downside is that it's easily 3x the price per 5 gallon, and not easily removed if needed. Ideally you'd want the cortec on the frame and wheel wells, Fluid Film inside the body panels

I was mistaken on the cortec product number above so I edited my post, it's Vpci 368. If it's something you'd like to try out, I can get you a gallon for the cost of shipping, which may still be prohibitive

Thanks for your kind offer.
It's not alone of shipping costs. Also if it will be sent as present by a privat person will it take here import tax.
Fortunately it is available here. I will check it out, if it is an option.

I have not used the aerosol version, we purchase in bulk and apply with a brush
Fluidfilm/permafilm mix will be done with compressed air gun. Thats why i will test it before use it on the chevy. I dont know how clean the spray pattern is. Not all is allow to cover.
Small spray cans are just for small areas or caveties. We also dont use paint in spray cans. On the chevy all around is 20 kg primer and paint - frame, body inside/outside, brushguard, lightbar, rims.... We measure paint in kg not gallons 20kg = 5,283 gallons
