About a 2 hour drive. I have not been there since i was a kid but it was cool to see once and learn the history. Seems like they have added some things since then. I drove by it on the 40 a few times for my deer hunt and saw new signs about shit they added.

Bearizona is suppose to be cool. I have not taken the kids there yet.

Be prepared to waiting during the weekend in williams if you wanna eat there. Breakfast is decent till about 8-9ish, then it gets busy. Lunch is always packed, dinner it depends. Grand canyon brewery in williams is good food and beer. Tusayan isnt as packed. Flag will depend on if anything big is going on but waits arent horrible. Lots of good food. La Fondas (mexican), Fratelli’s pizza, miss zips, martannes, hard to beat the mom and pop restaurants there. Even williams is that way
Thanks. I'll have to look those up. Wasn't thinking we'd be in Williams except our drive through to Flagstaff.

Wife didnt want to go to Meteor Crater when we were down there. But the drive down 89A from Flagstaff to Sedona was pretty cool.

That area in general (Flagstaff) is the prettiest part of the 40 from Barstow to at least the Arkansas state line, which is the farthest east I’ve been on the 40.

Been there twice. Once as a kid and then took the wifey a few years ago. It’s worth the visit. How many days do you have?
We drive down on Friday to Flagstaff. No closer hotels that where charging too much until Flagstaff. So, we decided to drive straight through.

Then Saturday we go to the canyon, hike and visit whatever we can with the weather. Camp overnight either at the canyon or nearby Kaibab forest depending on availability of the canyon sites. With the government shutdown everything is free right now. But with reduced services, restrooms, shuttle buses, etc. and weather, we are hoping there will be quite a bit less people. Hopefully that leaves a bunch of vacant sites.

Then Sunday we work our way around the east side up around to horseshoe bend. Then to Upper Buckskin Gulch Trailhead where those sandstone slot canyons are. Maybe take a stroll through those if we have time

After that we have a four hour drive to our hotel in Vegas. The rest of the group wants to walk the strip before we head back home the next morning, so we will likely do that too. And if time permits, we may detour to the Lund hot springs in Nevada

Tight schedule, but the only one we could come up with this year where GF and my work schedule where able to align enough to get these days off. She just started a new job only about three months ago so she doesn't have any vacation time built up. We had to do some weekend switcheroos to get two weekends back to back. Then she will have to work two work weeks back to back to put it all back to normal.

Next year with more built up vacation time we could plan for more time at various sites. And if it's just us two we will be more flexible. We have her brother and his wife coming along with us this time so some of the itinerary is due to this

Should be a good time! Definitely packed stuff in for the weekend!

Dont speed in utah, them fuckers are always patrolling that highway just past lake powell. FabRats (if you follow them on youtube) is just north of kanab in glendale. Been by his place before, super down to earth

If your hauling a trailer, running that south side of utah is kind of a haul. Its all 2 lane and like 55-60mph speed limit.

Maverik will have the best price on fuel and ease of access (in page or utah). Conoco on the east side of flagstaff is easy in and out and pretty damn good price on fuel. Williams and the truck stops west of flag like to keep prices high.

If you want to hike friday, go to sedona. Or do a pink jeep tour. The 89a like Tom said is pretty as hell through oak creek canyon. Then you got all the red rock to see. Tons of hiking and mountain biking out there

Good to know. I'll keep that in mind

No trailer this time.

I don't expect to have any time to do much but driving on Friday. We are coming out of the Sacramento CA area and it's probably going to be a 12+ hour drive. Might arrive around 7pm or so in Flagstaff. Everyones probably going to want to get to the hotel and relax or eat something before going to bed. I don't blame them if they do.

If I had any say in this ?, I'd probably do some night hikes or star gazing that same day. But weather probably means we won't see a single star so I'll probably concede to the majority ?

Hopefully not close to the train tracks. Soo many trains go thru there. Luckily no train horns allowed in town. We stayed in one right down the street from downtown Flag. The first night was annoying. By the second and third night it was normal and then when we got home we missed the noise for a couple nights ?.

AI to the rescue, lol, my ass. Ever try to order from an AI fast food drive thru? Only thing I figure it was good at is looking thru posts on the internet and flagging them as misinformation.

Mom needs help with things around the house. So headed to Charleston SC area. Got some ceiling fans to install paintings and mirrors to hang. Told her make a list and in order of most important

Driving down today, then drive back Monday.
Sounds familiar. I'm also a #1 child, and was also "that guy" for my parents. Have a good trip!
