Timbrens, who tows with them?

Highly considering a set of these for the back of the 2020. Now that the tracker is not in the hauler when towing, my tongue weight is 2200-2400lbs and rough roads are… rough lol.

Dont want bags. You guys know my feelings on those

Whos towed heavy on timbrens and whats your thoughts? Reduce sag? Add any addition rebound over bumps when loaded?

Buddy of mine has an 8.1L truck with them. It's not harsh like the OEM units

It's been a good decade since I've towed with Timbrens but they were never harsh from what I recall.

The current ride of the truck when loaded is nicer than a set of airbags would be. Im not fucking that up.

Just do airbags and add a 1 gallon air tank inline. Use a one way valve going to the air tank with a return line controlled by a valve. Allow the slightest bit of air to return back to the bags. Gets rid of all of the bounce and doesn’t pogo stick. Or just run timbrens ? but do we ever do anything the easy way.

i tow with timbrens. I have had them for about 5 years. I used to have air bags and got tired of them quickly. Put the timbrens on and never looked back you don’t even have to think about them. I pull a 34 foot bumper pull camper. Truck rides great and feels more stable.

Timbrens still gonna squat a certain amount.

Factory 3500s will squat a certain amount.

Bags? I control the attitude of the truck. The remote for the compressor is clipped to my visor, if I don't like the ride, I can adjust bag pressure on the fly.

There's a reason most EVERY class 8 semi going down the road is on bags.

Almost EVERY class 8 does not have leaf springs either, nor are their bags the improper size for the correct spring rate through their travel so they actually work in the correct progressive fashion. Adjusting the air is only a small part of the right ride. To get the correct progressive spring rate requires deleting the leafs and doing something like the keldermann rear air ride setup because the bags need to be far bigger to reduce the spiking in spring rate these little pos bags create.

Not going to win this one with me, i WILL NOT run bags on this truck. They bounce, slam, add more force into the 5th wheel neck, reduce wheel travel, and overall suck imho.

If you like them, thats fine, im not trying to change your opinion or sway you away from them but im looking for info on the specific question i have. Lets keep it to that because im not after airbag opinions

Those look interesting. Look like theyre made of the same material as the front jounce bumpers?

Hard to do. Youd have to run different shocks and swap them each time and even then, heavy rebound required and very little compression but then you will lack dampening for high speed like chatter bumps. You also will have a hard time making it work because of the progressive curve with spring rate that is far too drastic. A shock cannot be valved to match said spring rate. You need ti make the spring more linear and not peak at high ass spring rate when compressed.

If im changing shocks, i might as well swap in a coilover where the shock went lol.

I have Sumo springs on my little half ton gas truck, but I haven't towed anything with it since I installed them a few weeks ago. My buddy swears by them though.

Not to answer for James but airbags make it incredibly difficult to dampen especially constantly varying loads. The only way to make it work how he would want would be electric controlled shocks like in the teslas. I feel like most people don’t realize how much helper bags destroy ride quality. A quick test would be to sit in the back seat of your truck and let someone else drive then you can feel how drastically different the rear of the truck rides compared to the front.
