Got the replacement tracks for the excavator yesterday and installing them tomorrow so the build will be resuming shortly. 20201203_083303.jpg
Next step for the build is purchase of a core LBZ. Really with Edelbrock would get off the rears and get the LBZ heads released.

Any chance you can throw up a picture of the comp cam key? I called and the tech is telling me the comp cam has a dowel pin... thinking he's new. LOL.

NVM - called again and got a different guy 100% certain they are keyed. One is going in my LLY for the 186/200 STG 1, LST

Well life gets in the way sometimes, the best laid plans of mice and men ? But dam it I am not a quitter even when forced to work in a redneck tent of a garage ?
This is a mostly stock LBZ with head studs a keyed crank and the stg2 Comp Cam, 2020 L5P oil cooler, and fluid damper that were meant for my built LBZ/LML/L5P Frankenstein build.
The original engine with the Danville stg2 3794 is still in the truck. The greasy valley turbo in the picture is a stock one for moc up. The atmospheric is an S480 with a billet wheel I bought some time ago. Still working on the Frankenstein motor but as expensive as it has gotten and my limited funds I have become impatient. This build gives the opportunity to put together a twin kit and have the truck back up and running much sooner.1000002362.jpg

I bought a stock running take out from a wrecking yard. Decided to put that Comp Cam in it and found the crank pins had started to sheer.
Figured no big deal just pull the crank and have it keyed. Everything was looking like new as I pulled it apart, until the rear main. So I changed to a long block I had bought on Offer Up. I didn't know what was in this long block as the guy I got it from got it in an lot of stuff at auction. When I picked it up I noticed it had head studs and an oil return fitting in the pan rail. I was hoping it had some speedy goodies inside but no luck it was all stock. It however was like new inside even the rear main.

This is an example of how this looked inside. The bearings all looked new as well.
Pulled this crank and had it keyed, thoroughly cleaned it and reassembled.

Curious what was wrong with the rear main on the short block that rendered it not useable?

Nice Score on the fresh long block.

Oh it is still usable, I was just not wanting to a rebuild. The crank may or may not polish out and bearings could have been replaced. However not exactly sure what caused that one bearings to get wiped out when all the rest looked like brand new. Both engines were in remarkable condition. Other than that one bearing they weren't just good they all looked new. The coating on all the piston skirts looked new as well.

I really got no history on it. Numbers say it's a 2010 LMM. Of course it had the heads and pan off before. I don't think it was ever apart further than that, but just a guess. The only thing i have replaced is gaskets main and rod bolts. Crankshaft was polished when keyed and checked with plasti-guage when reinstalled. Not rebuilt by me just disassembled, cleaned, inspected and reassembled.

The one with the wiped out rear main was the complete supposed running take out.
I don't think it had ever been apart. The damage wasn't that bad but deemed rebuild and the other motor didn't.

Not much to update. Found it necessary to replace my tig welder. Old transformer machine served me well for many years but it has gotten harder and harder to find someone to do repairs when needed. The old machine is also huge and I just don't have the space for it. So got a Primeweld 325x coming.
Got as much of the fit up on the hot side connection pipe done till I can start welding.the flex joint will fill the gap in the pipe.

New welder got here Thursday and the torch showed up yesterday. I bought a duel flow meter argon regulator with the package that is due to arive tomorrow. I had to order some QDs to hook the torch to the water cooler they shipped today.
Hopefully I have a functional welder this weekend. I also bought a Harbor Freight Vulcan cart but it will require some modifications to fit the cooler on the lower shelf.
