Okay... So, I own a I a diesel performance shop in NJ and we mainly specialize on Powerstrokes. Recently I got this bug that I wanted to add an LBZ to my personal collection along side my 8 Powerstrokes.. in doing so of course I decided hey why not grab myself a V2 while I'm at XDP picking up a parts order for a customers build. With that said, I HAVE NEVER wrote tuning, its always been outsourced to Vivian at Quicktricks for the Powerstrokes. With this said I decided I'd go for gold with the Duramax and try figuring it out.

Could a skilled/seasoned tuner take a look at my DSP5 tune? its currently on my truck, feels really good for the most part. I know the trans needs some tuning to match but just wanted to see if there is anything I should fix right away on the engine side.. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

****to anyone without common sense, I HIGHLY suggest DO NOT LOAD OR COPY this tune straight into your truck. This is the FIRST tune I have ever wrote for a Duramax/EFI. I know I said I loaded it to see where I stood but it was just that, to see what I had and it felt okay but will most likely melt your shit down faster than you’ll catch an STD from a $2 Hooker in Mexico.

If you go to Edit>configure display units you can change the units for ease of adjusting boost. Looks like you know this and have your stuff in imperial yet. Change this back to Metric before you reload it back it. I see you changed pulse in the tunes, but didnt add boost where there was added fuel. I like to put my units to imperial, and then subtract my baro from the entire table, and save it. Now I have a boost table I can make changes to and get the exact boost numbers I want. I say this because you have a decently hot tune for #5 and are calling for 24ish psi is all. You're calling for more boost in tune #1 than #5. You can get up to 30-32 easily there at minimum. I see you change pulse throughout the tunes, but it appears you didnt go through and revamp the timing tables. These are just a few things I noticed. Also, there are two tools for smoothing tables, get to know them. They will be your friend.

Just so you're aware, dont count on getting too much detailed help. If I were you, I'd dig up old threads from 2006-2009ish and read read read. That era people were helping each other and sharing info. That doesnt happen much anymore. Luckily for you though, the LBZ is very straight forward to tune.

Okay yeah I know I reloaded the tune to the truck still in imperial, I will pull it and switch and do a reload. The whole DSP5 has me thrown off a bit. The levels between is what gets me yet still using some stuff from the basic area. I do know I needed to do a bit of smoothing still, I was more or less just getting an idea of where I stood so far. I was surprised on the truck it was a very peppy tune(s) but can feel there is a lot of work needed. Surely need to do something with the trans it feels like it just slips when heavy into it.

Is it stock?! If so 1850us seems to be considered the safe-ish limit of fuel. 2400-2500us like your calling for will fry the allison QUICK.

YES. 100% stock trans, truck only has egr delete, s&b, 4" exhaust... This is literally the first Duramax I own. 8 Powerstrokes in my shop/driveway though lol.... Would anyone happen to have a proven decent DSP5 tune or even a tow tune type file? with a decent matching trans file? I'd like to just compare, I get the calculators and what not but coming from SCT to EFI I'm guessing I missing a lot...

*** I mean I'm used to being able to throw a decent converter into a 5r110 adding some tuning and she'll hold 550ish all day.

I don't think there is any benefit or reason to switch back to metric/imperial before loading the tune. The units you chose to work in are just that. Displayed units. They dont change what the ecm works with. I leave mine in imperial and upload in it too

5r110 rated at 1100 lb/ft
Allison 1000 rated at 660 lb/ft

Yeah, see I kid you not.. I woke up last Saturday and said I want a Duramax to play with. Searched market place found a nearly immaculate rust free ext cab 8’ bed loaded LBZ that was a one owner truck, grandfather gave it to his grandson but he was 16 and wanted a fast car. I offered him a 01 bmw a customer gave me for $509 off their bill and the kid begged me to come trade. Monday I ran to XDP since we hold an account with them an grabbed exhaust, s&b with scoop, the v.2, and overnighted an egr delete to the shop. Play parts changed on Wednesday and started playing with tuning lol *♂️ Judge me, I know impulsive and reckless.

Interesting, I had a bad experience early on in my tuning efforts and noticed I forgot to put things back to metric. Once I did my issues seemed to go away, but it could have been coincidence...or something else.

I'll tell ya what, I've been in the diesel industry for a long time now. I remember before I opened my shop being a NFG to Powerstroke engines and cruising the forums. The people there were rude cocky sob's and would just go off the handle with everything that didn't pertain to your post and provided absolutely zero help... I've owned an LBZ for just a little over a week and have received more help and great knowledge without the bs and spam than I EVER did when I was starting out with the Fords... That alone in itself would make me consider selling off all 8 fords and replacing them with Chevys :roflmao:

Even locals will jump right in and lend a hand or help to educate, its unreal the difference in the two communities:rofl:

We are like brothers, in that, we scrap every once in awhile but in the end the comrodery overtakes. One of my best friends was made off this forum and I consider vast majority of those on here friends as well...:D
