Maybe I will give the ACDELCO 3351092 145amp a try. That would still be a pretty good upgrade from 105.

I noticed a difference at idle on how fast the alternator recovered from glow plug and grid heater running on cold start ups, swapping to 145A from a 105A.

Seamed I went to full voltage in ~1/2 the time with 145 vs 105

recovery isnt the same as the amperage being used. if it made more at idle, you would have seen next to no movement at idle in the needle when the glow plugs were on compared to off. what your describing is the battery having a better charge in it than before

it would be a very good ideal to upgrade the wire size of the alternator wire for these big amp alts if you are going to use that many amps. that tiny 8 or 10 gauge wire these trucks come with were not designed for that much power.

Keep us updated on the odyessey batteries I've been contemplating a set

Be careful with higher voltage alternators with the Odyssey batteries; they're very sensitive to being overcharged. I think the warranty is void if charged over 14.5V.

Mine a 4 gauge.. Off the alternator

GP when on would pull ~60-80A and the grid heater would pull ~140A plus the 60-70a truck at least mine uses normally.

I spoke with them and Mechmam alternator, in addition to higher output at idle they use a slightly smaller pulley to achieve this, it also brings up having to purchase a new belt with the smaller pulley and they would not accommodate a clutched/decouple pulley, I was told I did not need one.

Fine, can you install one IF I purchase an alternator.

Response: You don't need one.

Me: The truck has one from the factory and would like one back on the truck to reduce wear on the alternator, idlers and tensioner and keep the lifespan to a maximum.

Response: You don't need one

Me: Thank you very much and I hang up..............

I did find a local company that will supply me a Denso hairpin alternator with the pulley I want.........

Thanks for all the info guys! I ordered a Acdelco 145 and am going to order the Odyessey batteries tonight and see if that does the trick.

Installed the Odyssey batteries tonight, WOW, truck turns over like crazy now. The volts hold at about 12.5-12.7 volts now with the hydraulic steering pump on and jump up to about 14 volts when pump is turned off.

Can't you just do the dual alternator? Thise trucks came as an option I would just imagine it's just a bracket, alternator and a belt but I am not sure

I replaced the anemic fusible link charge wire to a 4 gauge cable, I also added an additional 4 gauge charge cable from the alternator to the passenger battery. Take a close look at the stock charging system, it was not designed for optimum charging to the passenger battery.

I had some unexpected results after replacing the alternator with one that put out 150 amps at idle and it was not the Denso hairpin alternator as planned and did not use an under sized pulley ...:D
