What to check on lb7

My dad wants to look at an 2002 lb7 dump truck this weekend. Truck currently does not run.

The ad says "injectors changed now will not start"
truck has 103k miles on it

When talking on the phone the guy said- took it to a shop, said #2 injector was bad changed it, now truck wont start.

Seller says it ran fine up till then.

The truck is listed cheap enough it could be worth taking a chance on. would like to make sure that the motor is at least good, and it only needs injectors hopefully.

I figure I can at least check for codes with my scanner and put a socket on the balancer to make sure it doesn't have a broken crank. just looking for ideas on what else I could check motor/trans wise without it running

Probably put a shitty injector in that's returning too much

yeah my hope is its just a crap injector.

Also, anyone have an idea what a 2002 reg cab 4x4 cab and chassis would weigh? This has a dump bed added so im thinking around 7000 lbs

I'm not 100% sure if he replaced one or all of them. ad said "injectors" so I thought all, but then he said #2.

I'm going into this assuming we need put all 8 injectors in it.

I just called the owner again to confirm we are coming to look at it Friday afternoon. asked if he knew the weight. he said 8800. that seems really high to me for a regular cab dump. Im thinking maybe it was 6800 not 8800.

The weight sounds like it may be a little high, but that all depends on how heavily built the dump bed is built. No way it's 6800 though.

Why is yours so heavy it have a dump bed too
might as well. That wasn't a certified scale so it might not be too accurate. I'll hop on one of those soon. It was with a full tank and me and some chains in the bed.

The lift, tires, gooseneck hitch, air compressor and tank. It all adds up I guess. Now I'm curious.

I just checked my PA state registration and my crew cab dually is listed as weighing 7200. I figured a regular cab dump would be around the same weight

I weighed an '06 CC dually 4x4 base model work truck, and it was a little over 7400 lbs with a camper shell on it without a driver. My dad's loaded '07 LMM CC dually 4x4 weighed 7800 without anything extra in it with a driver. Your weight sounds a little light to me, and I would guess the LB7 you're looking at to be at least 8k lbs. Like I said before though, that depends on the construction of the dump bed.

Cab and chassis in my sig weighs 7700 with me in it and half tanks of fuel. I would imagine with all the 4x4 stuff, dump bed, pto, etc would weigh another 1000 pounds.

Check oil for diesel fuel with a white napkin, check the coolant reservoir tank for black soot (head gaskets), leaky trans lines, dry/rotted fuel lines, rotted brakes lines, and front steering.

It's going to be tough to check it out without it running. Check fluids and look for leaks and turn it over and listen for any abnormal sounds during cranking. Make sure it sounds like it has compression.

Wow! I cannot believe the pieces of junk people try to sell on craigslist.

The guy owned an orchard but doesn't mention in the ad the truck was originally a concrete truck. Dump bed had spray foam insulation in it and particle board on the bed floor.

Checked over the motor and know this guy screwed something up. oil had fuel in it. He said he took it to a mechanic and they told him #2 was bad "pass side front" so he changed that whole side, then found out he did the wrong set of cylinders, so pulled out #1 and swapped it over to #2. He tried saving a buck doing it himself and royally messed the job up.

Everything was so bad. I actually felt sorry for the truck. looked like it could have been a good little dump at one time.

started talking price and he told me he was firm at $6000 and went off about how if this truck ran it would be worth $13,000 and how 10 people have come to look at it. I told him if 10 ppl looked at it why do you think none of them bought it and walked away.
