I'm guessing that it disengages the passenger side axle?

So that means that the driver side axle is always driven, but the driveshaft doesn't spin until this is engaged?

Please correct me if I am wrong...

It's the central axle disconnect. It disconnects the passenger side axle so the spider gears can free spin minimizing drag in the front axle in 2 wheel drive.
