I have a 06 dmax I'm trying to change waterpump on and the one that came out has a plastic 7 blade but all of the ones I see on-line say they are for 06-16 dmax all have cast 8 blade impeller. Help please

Plastic is the pump you need for 06-10 trucks. I'd recommend only a genuine GM part. I've seen many times where the stock images on websites are reused for these water pumps.

Merchant Auto also has a nice "kit" that includes all gaskets, flywheel lock tool, and a new GM water pump/housing. They are typically what we use/sell and they have been great.

I got this welded non slip one from sinister diesel. It says it fits all 06-10. Does it matter if it is 8 blade instead of 7? I called gm and they said there is only 1 pump for 2006 so it shouldn't matter if it is lly or lbz. Are all of these places selling them online listing the wrong year?

I personally haven't seen a later generation pump with a cast metal impeller. All the one's I've ordered have been plastic. The cast impellers are prone to slipping on the shaft and causing an overheat condition with high rpm which is why now most guys run the 06-16 pump in 01-05 trucks as well.

I didn't think 06-16 pumps fit on 01-05 because of different bolt pattern

You're correct, hence why DHD drills them for the single different bolt location and modifies the front covers. Then it's as easy as drilling a hole in a new water pump should yours fail as you already have the cover.

So long story short, they easily fit and have for 5yrs+. I don't know when DHD/Danville first modified a pump but I know it was prior to 2018.
