Well my hard drive failed on my tuning computer. I bought a new hard drive thay my neighbor was going to install, but it was too late. My neighbor's looking at it to see what can be recovered. I don't have the disk to reinstall the operating system. It was an old window 7 computer. What do you guys recommend me running for a computer that's stable? Or is it worth fixing my old one? How do I go about getting and older version EFI live? I never figured out the V8 and was using v7. Sorry I'm lost with this stuff.

I have windows 7 disks if you need to barrow any. I can probably upload or give you an ISO or electronic copy if needed. Do you still have the sticker on the computer with the key or do you need another one?

I still run Windows 7. Still the best version in my opinion. Plus fully compatible with EfiLive.

Do you have any idea if the electronics on the drive failed or the spinning platters? If it was the platters then it can be difficult to recover much. If it's the circuit board then you can often times find a used one on eBay, same make and model as yours and swap the board and fully revive your dive. Then you can clone it over to a new drive. I've done this to several drivers over the years.

I'm not a computer guy so I'm not positive if this is possible in your situation... When the hard drive needed replaced on my laptop I had a shop install a new SSD hard drive, they took an "image" of the old one and everything was just like it was before when they transferred it over, didn't need to reload anything at all

My neighbor is checking to see if any of the guys he knows still have the disks. I can ask him if the image with the codes are still there or not. I would assume so if it's something from the factory because the computers in good shape.

That I don't know he had me buy a SSA drive knowing it was failing. He said he was never able to recover more than 31% before the drives ability to boot into windows had completely failed.

He still thinks he can recover the files. He just needs the disc to be able to load in the operating system. Sorry I'm trying to explain this best I can not real savvy in this stuff.
I'll ask him about the sticker and about a disc or electronic copy.
My understanding is he's retired military and very familiar with windows 7 from the military. If you don't mind PM your contact information and maybe I'll put you in touch with him so I'm not the middle man confusing everything.

I think that's what my neighbor's trying to do. He had me buy an SSA drive too

Sounds like the patters where what was failing. 30 or so percent is what I've averaged too for those types of failures.

Just let me know if you need a copy of Windows or not. I have everything from 3.1 to 10. But since you already have the key for 7, you might as well stick with that. I can always send and ISO file that he can burn to a disk if he wants.

why don't you slave the hard drive and copy the files over to a working computer.then, once you getwindows 7 working, load the captured files.unless the drive doesn't spin.

I would suggest replacing the failed/failing drive with a SSD, getting the os loaded, then use a USB adapter to connect the old disk to the reloaded machine.

It's usually easiest to use an OEM copy of the windows install media to remove reinstall because it usually doesn't require imputting a product key or activating it. What brand is the pc? I have ISOs of Dell media that you can use Rufus to make a bootable USB to reinstall the os. Only gotcha is you need to use a USB 2.0 port, not a USB 3.x port.

I’ve had multiple drives crash on me in my life. Honestly, I just cut my losses and move on. I’ve tried using shops/businesses to get me my stuff but it never works.

I know it works at least some times but I guess I have shitty luck.
