Every lml that comes in for head gaskets has pistons starting to crack. The last 2 have been only on drivers bank, total of 5. All vertical cracks too.

I see those cracks a lot too. I've seen a few without cracks, but more often than not, they aren't that lucky.

I warn them as well. Whichever repair they initially arrive for, customers frequently are already aware of the other possibilities on an lml, so they come prepared to spend a boatload on preventative stuff while it's down for whichever repair is required.

Hard to schedule around this stuff. I've been tempted to have a new or rebuilt short block ready to go in stock but there are so many options for upgrades as far as crank, AF cam, etc etc I haven't committed to that yet

All years. No obvious signs. Only way to know is a good borescope down the glow plug hole or pull the heads… or wait till a piston lets go lol

06-16, that I've seen, are far more likely to crack pistons than 01-05 trucks. LMLs seem to be the worst overall in my experience.
