Has anyone ever heard of these 'speed of air' pistons? I found them perusing the screwtubes, and they apparently have a ceramic coating, 'golf ball dimples', a 'gapless' second ring and supposedly have some significant benefits including lower emissions, quieter operation, more power, lower EGTS... Seems too good to be true to me, but who knows... There's a 'decent seeming' shop in Utah that did a thing on them and is apparently a believer in them now... Anyone else heard of them and/or have any experience with them?

They've been floating around for 5-6 years now. That I know of.

Dave's diesel.... I got tired of watching known shops from the forums.. constantly correct him on diesel stuff.. all his major social media stuff is blocked for me.

In theory the stuff makes sense..

Unlike when fingers brought out his ovals and said do your worst.. these guys have been very tight lip and stick to controlled test

I think one of the major big rig companies was testing them for emissions stuff, or a rebuilder for them was.

Volvo was testing something called a "wave piston" that had ribs in the combustion chamber.

They are manufactured by UEM - United Engine Machine for Speed Of Air. They were released around 2019 for the Duramax market. I was interested in them when I did my rebuild, but I couldn't find any actual real world use of them and was afraid to be a Guiney pig. That being said I have no doubt that UEM can produce a quality part as I have use there stuff on the Gas side. But even Mahle had trouble in the beginning with this specific market.

They seem to work in principal lowering emissions output and having lower EGT's under load but I still have yet to see any long term reports on these.
