I recently purchased tires on Ebay. i went to have them mounted and place says they are 6 ply and I need 10 ply. They were the right size. I have a Duramax 2002 crew cab 4X4. They will only mount them if I remove the wheels and bring them in. I don't think the company will take them back and give me 10 ply. I wrote them before i bought them and they said same size go ahead and use them. I don't haul anything with this truck so it's not a hauling issue. What do you think

Ply is a throwback to when tire weight ratings were based on how many plies of rubber. 6 ply is a C rated tire. We use E rated, though some people might run a D in a truck not meant to haul.

Look at the weight rating stamped on the tire vs the weight of your truck. That should tell you all that you need to know - don’t put them on your truck.

What is the max psi rating on the eBay 6 ply's? Not to mention the weight rating. Your truck bone dry empty probably weighs 7600+ lbs.
Put in two people + full fuel and you may be overloading the tires. The tire shop shouldn't be, but are liable if they put 4 1500 lb max weight rating tires on your truck. That's why they said to bring just the wheels in.

I wouldn't do it. Towing or not.

It’s easy to get mixed up between tire load index and ply rating, but they serve different purposes. The load index is a numerical code that indicates how much weight a tire can carry. Ply rating, on the other hand, gives you insight into the strength of the tire’s construction.

For example, a 6 ply tire might have a load index of 104, meaning it can carry up to 1,984 lbs. Knowing both the ply rating and the load index will give you the complete picture when choosing the right tire for your vehicle.

Ply Rating Load Index Example Maximum Weight (lbs)
6 104 1,984
8 116 2,756

50 psi is the max I have been researching and these are what are on Toyota Tacoma's also They are telling me these would give a better ride last longer and haul medium weights. I don't tow anything or use for firewood or engines. 99% of the time it's empty. Just not as durable as a 10 ply. My issue is I am not sure i can get my money back. So I buy 10 ply and try to sell these which maybe hard since they are 6 ply. I have been researching, and 6 ply may not be so bad. The other reason he mentioned 10 ply was the diesel engine and the torque. So, I still looking for advice

I forgot 2000 lbs per tire
That's dangerously close to the weight of the truck with fuel and passengers. Might even exceed the tires rating. Even if it is under, insurance might not cover it, if you have a blowout and get in a wreck

Might want to just play it safe and chalk it up to a learning experience and sell the tires on Facebook marketplace or somewhere and then purchase the correct tires

Probably would be over on the front tires.

Could always use the 6ply on the rear and buy the correct tires for the front. But you still wouldn’t be able to haul much.

I decided to sell the tires and bought 4 class E tires. I am upset with the seller because I wrote them and told them what they were going on they said it was okay. In fact, I wrote them twice with the truck info and they told me as long as they were the same size. When I contacted them to see about returning them. They mentioned I had 90 days, and it was way over that. I explained I tried 2 days before I received them if they were right and when they said yes. I figured I was in no hurry. to mount them. I also mentioned the 6 ply against 10 they said there was of no difference and still mount the tire. Never again with Priority tires they lost me. So this week I am getting 10 ply tires from Walmart

Good move. Even Walmarts cheapest E tire is probably still better than what you had

Unfortunately you're dealing with someone who simply has no idea, this is all to common when trying to purchase tires from the cheapest online retailer. You as the buyer (unfortunately) are responsible for doing all the homework with those types of online sellers.

I think the difference is the OP did not buy them in an E rating like your friend, he purchased the incorrect SKU that appears to be C rated.
