Hi guys I’m new here and just bought my first Duramax…2024 2500 HD, I’ve been around diesels my whole life, CAT, John Deere, Powerstroke, and Cummins…however this is my first GM product, I really like the truck, I have about 2400 miles on it now and was thinking about an oil change? Anyone know what the recommended time is for the first oil change? What oil brands and weights do you guys recommend? I use Mobil Delvac 15w-40 in my CAT truck engines and JD engines, I used a full synthetic in my Powerstrokes, and Rotella 15w-40 in my Cummins pickups, any suggestions would be great

Welcome

Any diesel rated 40 weight oil will work. Delvac, mobile 1, Rotella and schaeffer are all good. Don't be too concerned about the brand as long as it's a good brand with the rating needed you will be fine.

We get pretty cold here in the winter too…is a 15W-40 too thick…we can get down to -25F

15w-40 will work but I’d let it idle for a while if dead cold, let that oil warm up and thin out some.

Regardless, that be good practice for 5w-40 too
