Head wind and how much wind the load pushes affects it the most. Period! As a boat hauler going east to west north to south and all other ways take my word. Hills you can adjust your foot but wind you are going to burn it no matter what...

I have a 05 Lly 4500 4x4, with the 5.13 rear end, single cab, with a 12' flatbed. single Efilive tune, 5" exhaust with muffler. K&N intake, egr del. , 245/19.5 tires. cruising around unloaded on hwy it gets 15-16 mpg.12-13 in town.

Towing our toy hauler which is at 10k, it got 8-10 on hwy

...granted it is gearbound on the highway, but if you try and keep it close to 2000rpm or under, or under about 55mph is where it runs best.

This guy likes to drive at 75mph......and he likes a little power, he won't drive "55".

Only two things different between you and me. .75. Vs .70 od and the height of the vehicle

Mine will run 75, but with the 245s and the 5.13 gear its turning almost 3k and begins to drink fuel badly. I wish I could convert it to a 6-speed to help out on the highway. The PPE conversion kit will not work, as Dan has told me you need a tow haul signal to lock out 6th gear . Sorry to go off topic Tony.

How I use mine for pulling trees, hauling heavy loads such as a bobcat short distances, the low gearing is awesome. If I were going to be doing lots of hwy towing, I would definitely change the rear end gearing. Also would be nice to get some bigger tires that would help some on the hwy, but I don't have 1600$ I want to spend on 6 new tires.

gear swap is cheaper...
