I was ask the other day about a standalone bin with VATS disable on the LML. To which I replied, "you can't disable VATS on a the LML?"

Guess my LML work ended with the block and oil pump mods.. lol

So I do some reading, see that 10yrs on nobody has solved it in the bin. And when saw the aftermarket LML VATS module price, well my fingers started twitching...

Whats the deal here I'm missing? EFIlive or HPT hasn't found the right switch yet? I've seen where others claim to have killed it by modifying the raw bin, But that's about the end of as of 2023 posts.

Thanks for that link. I understand what Ross was saying about a patch like on the E38. Guess wasn't big demand for stand alone LML. For marine side, last one I played with, just drilled the heads, and switched em to LMM injectors, pump, and ECM. Problem solved.

But I would thought BT would have solved this for us long long time ago.. :ROFLMAO:

I've spent more time then id like to admit reading about the LML vats. Back when it was a hot topic you'll find many forum posts from BT on it and if anyone was to solve you think it would've been him. HP and EFI have Vats switches mapped but all they do is either disable the vats (which will cause a no start/no crank condition) OR you can disable whether the key being used is correct or not which will allow a generic correctly cut key to start the truck **I think i have not confirmed that myself** BUT it still needs to exchange the seed/key data with the BCM and Theft module.

To the best of my knowledge it boils down to needing a custom patch BUT you cannot custom patch it due to that area of the BIN being "signed" (im not sure if i've got that exact correct).

You would think there has got to be a way but i don't think the demand was there for it to be worth it.

Quote from the efi live guys:

If the E86 requires an OS patch (and why would it be any different?) then we are in trouble because the OS is RSA signature protected (which is why we've never done DSP5 for them too....that and Tri-Core sucks big time).

I read that same post few days back. Is interesting about the RSA signature, and I get what he saying about a patch. Basically changing or replacing a segment of the bin so it doesn't acknowledge wrong BCM messages..

However, since in most stand-alone configurations, have no BCM talking, I'm thinking more down the lines of lookng for switches in the open part of the OS says No Fuel, actually equals Fuel On. That way, so long as there is no Valid VATS or emobilzer related messages received, then it will fire.. Basically go next level up in a part of the OS where it makes the decsion based off of the locked parts we can't currently change. Be the first thing I'd try at least before trying to hack the RSA signature parts.

Instructions say to, install, turn key on ( I assume at this time it’s copying the required “good to start” messages). Then start truck. Isn’t that just the same as a command start bypass module?

I though about trying that at one time but you’d need to have a function truck to learn it and then if you ever had trouble down the road as standalone you’d kinda be hooped.

Maybe I’m wrong about the ppe unit tho, be interest to know how it works.

I don’t know really. It seems only the 15+ needs programmed. 11-14 is plug and play.
