LML Performance Potential

Hi guys, I'm in the market for an LMM or LML Duramax. I plan for 750-800hp as a short term goal, potenitally 1000 some day. I know the LMM has the potential but adding the LML to my truck search it increases the number of trucks I have to choose from. Is it feasible to make this kind of power with the LML? I'm ok if it costs ~10% more than an LMM or so. But if everything costs a ton more I'll limit myself to the LMM. Also, for anyone who knows, how much more does the 2011+ chassis weigh than the 07-10 chassis? Is it still lighter than the Fords and Dodges?

Oh no doubt I understand I'll need slugs and rods. But last I heard the lml fuel system and tuning was a weak point.

I know yoi can dual fuel lmls but I don't know anything about the lml injectors.

No offense, but if you're asking this question, I have a hard time believing you're aware of what an 800+HP truck truly costs...

600 reliable hp - $14000 (built trans, CP3 conversion, FASS, big tune, exhaust, deletes, bolt ons)

Over 750 reliable hp - $45000+ (built motor, rods, pistons, keyed crank, cam, injectors, dual CP3s, billet built trans, above parts, compounds, etc etc etc)

+1. 650hp is a whole different ball game than 750.

I wouldn't plan on pushing 750 - 800hp through either with a stock motor.

Didn't HKS get almost 3 1000 HP runs out of a stock LML? :joker::woott:

In all seriousness, I have over $10,000 in go fast mods in my LB7 and I'm only pushing ~520 because I'm running out of fuel on my stock high mile CP3. Throw an extra $2k on there for either a dual or larger CP3 and you're looking at $12k for 600 HP. I did all the labor myself and am running a set of used injectors.

Where are you getting your prices from!??

I planned on $10-15k for pre "built motor" power. (I figured 650, maybe 700-750 if lmls have better pistons and I want to push it)

And probably $10-15k for parts to build my own motor.

I have enough skill to build everything myself short of the trans (gonna have a reputable guy mod that)

LML is close to 1000lbs over earlier models. HP potential should be close with built engine but I've not seen any real high HP LMLs.

I have a LML on the dyno now with dual fuelers and a decent size set of twins and its in the mid 600's. The CP4 seems to hurt these trucks but there are options to get rid of them.

You're really need to do some searching/learning. It's true if you build it yourself, you can build a capable engine for between 10k-15k. The problem is that's just an engine. That's doesn't count a fuel system, turbo/kit, built transmission/converter, and heaps of odds and ends. I'm not telling you any of this to be discouraging, just trying to keep you in reality. Ask around, if you take what you originally thought it'd cost triple it and you'll be in the ballpark.

I will be just shy of $20,000 for my engine, trans, fuel and air combo..I have gotten alot of good deals and also built my trans myself. Kind of sickening to think about actually.

Well considering people spend $20k+ on sports cars and other toys I wouldn't feel bad about spending that to have a low 12 second duramax!

I ran 12.0 on a stock motor. This 20k im speaking of will put me to a 10.9 if i want.

That's what I like to hear!

Really though, I'm not afraid to spend, I'll be keeping this truck potentially forever so its a lot of time to spread the money over.

Im happy at right around 550 or 600 and dont have too much money in mine. $500 tuning, $2,900 trans, $1,400 turbo kit, $600 fuel system, $50 tie rods sleeves, $300 extrude honed my stock injector nozzles, $300 gauges, ~$1,000 head studs n gaskets.

Could you swap a '15+ Ford cp4 pump into a LML for a little more volume or is it still better to convert to cp3?

You're not kidding. I think a lot of people forget all of the little stuff along the way. It's easy to just add up the big items and think that's it.

I gave up trying to keep track of the dollar figure I have into my trucks. A good rule of thumb if you plan on building a motor and going big is this:

Be sure you can afford to pay for it twice!

Anything over 750rwhp will continually need your money if you plan on playing with that power very often. :eek:
