limits on lb7 rods?

What seems to be the max HP limit on stock lb7 rods? Dustin is installing my 45 over injectors and Floor It stage II cp3 on the 7th. Wondering if I have enough fuel with this gt4088r to bend one. Pistons shouldn't be an issue, I'm pretty conservative with egts. I'd like to maintain same power level but on the fence to have a bigger tune....

The tuning will also play a big role! So far mine is ok but who knows when it will happen. I'm sure Dustin will set it up to not fuel hard with to much timing down low.

ive seen pistons from a LB7 motor melt before the roads bend.

A customer at work has a MPI twinned semi built LB7 and put down 618hp without an issue, but im not sure if he drives on that tune or not..

Iv seen 600hp alot. think trent was running 11's on his for a while. Its all in the tuning. Remember the 7's are the best and baddest diesel ever built to this day:D

Its six one way half a dozen the other... Ive seen a stock bottom end LLY puller dyno over 800HP and hook better than 60 times at that level and still wasnt making contact with the crank. Dont get me wrong, the rods were bent when they came out, but the truck still ran and still was pulling.

There are two defining factors that dictate rod life, tuning and your right foot! There are guys out there that could destroy an anvil, and there are guys that can make 650-700HP on stock rods against what the na-sayers have to say, and make em live for awhile. It wasnt long ago that 500HP was the absolute limit on stock LB7 Rods....

585/1128 Later... Mines alive and well at nearly a year to the date at that potential power level. :D Just pull the pin, I wouldnt worry about it til she said boom!

Tuning is definitely a big part. I have 182k on my stocker and was 600-650whp for 80k on it and 535hp for 40k with ALWAYS running the race tune. Compression when motor was pulled was 410 across the board. Id say they are safer with a big single then twins too due to the torque. But big singles aren't near as fun to drive. I only ran twins for 700 miles the rest was S472 or gt4094.

Naw, money is much stronger than stupid. With enough money, you can be as stupid as you like.

But, it's got to be a LOT of money, as stupid is an excellent money-removal device.

Well said X2 my friend! :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

I completely agree. I've had over 500 rwhp for almost 80k now and no motor issues other than replacing injectors. IIRC 30 degrees timing & 3100 pw. Dustin's tuning has been awesome. So .me may not agree but to each his own.

Pat's got it right on torque. IMO, mid-500s rwhp is about it for stock LB7 rods, then its just "how much" they'll bend, not "if" they will.

Tuning plays the biggest role in longevity. Some guys know what they're doing with a stock motor, some dont.

I agree Tom I dynoed 670hp and under 1000ft lbs
