Hey guys. Not sure if anyone will remember me or not. I have been gone for a while. Life has been crazy like most. Had a baby girl last April and then quit my job. I wanted to make a go at owning my own business.

I started out as a mobile repair service working out of the back of my F250 with a home base of a 1000 sqft pole barn with one lift and a leaky roof. But the price was right (free) and it was close to town. Worked like that from May '18 until September '18.

Thanks to some great customers, an awesome land owner letting me use his pole barn, an understanding wife putting up with me working 14hr days 6 days a week and some creative financing I was able to buy a very nice 3500 sq ft 5 bay shop with office space. Fast forward to this year and I have 2 great guys working for me who kick ass and take pride in what they do. We are now a full service light duty diesel repair shop for Ford GM and Dodge trucks.

It's crazy to think about but in just 6 short years I went from doing oil changes and sweeping floors for a local light duty diesel shop to quickly becoming one of their biggest competitors. Long days and late nights do pay off.

I owe it all to one truck. The 2002 Ext Cab Lb7/Zf6 truck a broke college kid never should have bought. No way I could have paid a shop to replace the piston that melted a few months into owning that truck. That lb7 was the first engine I had ever rebuilt by myself. I didn't know it at the time but that truck sparked something. I probably never would have pursued a career in the diesel field had I not gained the experiences I did with that truck

Which brings me to the reason for this post. Today I got that truck back. 7 years later my very understanding wife and I tracked it down. Shes a little worse for wear and has a bad clutch again. The current owner needed a running driving truck and I happened to have one I didnt have much money in so we traded. Now as long as business stays good I have some disposable income She will be getting a "restoration" to bring it back to its former glory.

Sorry for the long read. I attached some photos. How she looks today vs how she looked 7 yrs ago. And a pic of our shop.

Love to hear this story and almost brings a tear to my eye... I have a similar experience. Sold my first Duramax (02 I built myself over two years of struggling) for a girl. Regret it ever day. Found out last month the truck has been totaled. Broke my heart. God you had a happier ending and welcome back

Got the trans pulled out. I'd say the clutch was bad. Ripped out every spring in it and wore the friction down to nothing. Also at some point the lift pump got hit hard and bypassed but at least it was all there and i sent in my warranty card way back when.

Made some progress on it today. Clutch and tranny installed. New air dog hooked back up and fuel tank is all cleaned out. Just need to bleed the clutch. What a nightmare that is on the GM zf6 trucks.

I'm certain I'll be doing injectors in this thing. I sold it with 280k miles. I was told injectors were done right around 300k. She now has 428k. It was hazing during the few minutes I had it running last week. I'm hoping its just from the nasty bad fuel in it and sitting for 2 years but I have my doubts. We will see what it does after a test drive this week.

Reading good things about the SAC injectors. Who do I need to contact about them, LDS or S&S?

My helper for the day

Awesome story. Congrats on the business and getting your old truck back. Seeing the grey 01-02 ECSB makes me miss mine now. :(
Thanks
Welcome back and congrats on finding your old truck! :)
Thanks

Well got a set of tires on it and the clutch in and air dog installed. Put 50 or 60 miles on it. Runs like a top but I've got the haze in a major way. It will either get a set of sac injectors from LDS or stock bosch ones from my local bosch rebuilder.
Also need to ditch the home made helper springs and cobbled up exhaust.

It is awesome to have it back. It is so crazy to me how well the 430k mile zf6 shifts. I was nervous about that but it is silky smooth. It grinds for a split second into 3rd if you cram on it cold. But I think it would do that all those years ago.

Had to drag the trailer in for one of my guys to borrow. Pulled it nicely but obviously too heavy of a trailer to use with 3" drop shackles. But her working days are done. That's the 250s job now.

Also, does anyone know if the rubber bushings that the torsion bar crossmember mounts to are serviceable? I noticed they are in rough shape while doing the exhaust.

Went out to play with some Jeeps the other weekend. Did pretty good. Needs a transfer case. She makes a hell of a racket when you're in the throttle in 4wd. Still followed an f150 on 38s through a hole even popping and clanging. Forgot to get a good pic of it before I took the m/t's off and put the all terrains back on.

It's still trucking. Its round 230k now and rarely tows anything and gets driven about 10 or 15 miles to work and back home most days.
