LB7: Garrett GT3788R PowerMax Turbocharger kit Info

Chris (Neens) is going to put one of the new Garrett LB7 GT37R charger kits on his Dad's truck.

So of course, we open the box and take a peak.

Specs:

Fits - 2001-early 2004 LB7 Duramax Pickups, 8th Digit of VIN = 1

Shipping weight - 73lb

Exhaust A/R - 0.99

Intake A/R - 0.72

Boost control - Wastegated

Cooling - Water-cooled

Bearing - Roller-Bearing

Intake Inducer - 2.540" dia

Exhaust Exducer - 2.656" dia

V-Band Exh Dia - 3.700"

Compressor exit- 2.366" dia straight tube

Overall length of charger- 9.670"

Mount - T3 Pattern, D-port with splitter.

Height from pedestal to centerline - 3.500"

Map Width Enhancement - NONE

Inlet mount - flat LB7 triangle bolt pattern

Most probable Compressor Map is the GT4088, since the inducer dia matches:

This is a theoritical 20% improvement in flow over the stocker, and should be able to generate ~40 PSI of boost before going out of it's map. IF the turbine will let it do it.

I do not like the fact it's a got a tight T3 exh mount and .99 A/R. We will have to see if this limits the charger in any way. We know the factory LLY charger is a GT37 sized charger but the mount is closer to being equivalent to a T4, not a T3.

WOW, that looks like it is REAL complete and a lot closer to "bolt on" than the HTT kits.

Hope he does a write up...;)

I ran that kit for a few months a while back, and Mike and I spent many, many hours tuning and testing on mine if anyone has questions or anything.:D One thing I can say is the turbine seemed a little to small. When on the throttle hard in 5th gear it would surge or choke or whatever you want to call it. But it cleared up almost every ounce of smoke I had with the stocker. EGT's would still hit 1600 with the tighter ex housing, but it took a lot longer to get there than before. It was a very good setup I thought. Took me 5hrs to do the install start to finish by myself (100% sober if you're wondering :D), could probably be done faster but I drove it 30 miles to the shop and started as soon as I got there and stuff was a little hot.:D Getting the stock stuff off brought out cuss words I thought I had forgotten long ago too so I suggest anyone that installs one to bring a friend to help that is no stranger to bad words.:D
