New to this forum, but I know this is the Go-To place for me. '05 Duramax 3500 6.6. Was running fine, about to pull out with a loaded trailer when the engine shut off as if I turned the key off. Well, well. Plenty of fuel in tank. Filters full and primed. Not sure now if this has a fuel shut off valve or what ever. Called Chevy dealer and was told it has a regulator. ??? And that it couldn't be tested. ??? And they're very proud of it. And , of course they don't have one. It would have to come straight from GM. I thought that was a fuel shut off valve close to the fuel rail. I took the four screws out and unplugged the wire , cleaned and inspected and re-install. Still not starting. Need suggestions please. I don't want to let it sit at the dealers for a while. That can get expensive and they'll always find something else to tag on. It just seems like it would be something simple.

There is no shut off valve or something that would do as you describe.

Could very well be as simple as a small leak in a fuel line or filter housing causing air to get in the fuel lines. When you started the truck, it ran on what was in the lines until it hit the air pocket and the engine stalled. Or it could be much worse. But we will have a hard time helping you unless you have the tools check and diagnose the issues as we aren't close and can't see it in person

To try something easy, have you tried priming the filter housing yet? Does the bulb get hard after pressing it a dozen times or so?

Any codes?

Jason, could the FICM have failed and just shut the truck off?
Yep. Very possible. There are several codes that should result though. Minimally a lost communication with FICM and CEL

Had something similar when testing out a 5 amp fuse for the FICM. It popped when driving down the road. Engine just quit. Lucky had some spare 10 amp and was back on the road in 2 minutes.

will plug in a code reader and definitely check the fuses

Yes yes, Found air leak from plastic bleeder bolt top of Fuel filter housing, replaced with brass bleeder bolt. Main problem was FICM ! Burned capacitors to the extent of burned circuit board beyond repair Found good replacement FICM on E-bay. No shorts in wiring. Sorry it took me soo long to get back but did this on and off without taking to a shop. Thanks All
