My buddy has a 2016 Sierra he bought wrecked and has fixed. It seems maybe the ECM was damaged in the accident even though it doesn't show any visible damage because it is keeping the ECM relay powered on even after the key is turned off. Running the diagnostics for the code points to a bad ECM. We have another ECM from another truck, but the environmental IDs GM uses for the theft system is making it difficult to swap it into this truck. Does anyone know if there is a way to clear that from the ECM?

You would need to flash a calibration in to the used ecm to set the ecm up for a new vehicle. Pretty sure there is a way to do this with an mdi2 and gm tis.
The ID’s are gm’s way of keeping “a thief” from swapping in parts to make a vehicle run so it’s hard set into the ecm once set to take (switch is open when new, sees ID, saves data, switch closes and can’t be opened).
Nothing set in stone on GM service info on how to fix this other than buy a new ecm but I’ll keep digging

I don’t think you can program over it, Josh. Looks like you will have to get a new one and find the ID’s to program into the new one.
In the old system, it was a simple communication between the ignition switch, bcm, and ecm, but now it is like stated in the post James posted screenshots of. There are a bunch of modules that use the environmental ID, and if one of them doesn't match, the truck won't run.
