So I decided to buy my first drone. I was skeptical as my girlfriend wanted to buy it to use for photos on vacations in the summer boating. I thought there’s no way our photos will look as good as those and we won’t use it in a be a waste of money. After a recommendation from a friend I decided to go with the Mavic air. And to my surprise this thing is freaking sweet. I find myself lying it every day multiple times a day. It has so many features and functions that it’s very easy to fly and the camera is fantastic. It shoots ultra HD 4K video. I now think it will be very easy to take pictures and videos like she has seen online on our next vacation. So her here flies drones?

A guy I work with is big time into drone videos and photos. He carries it with him everywhere and gets some pretty cool video and pics. It has a 4 mile range and will also follow you up to 25mph if you were driving, biking, etc. He mostly uses it for family vacations and events as well

Had someone fly one over my house a little while back and the buzz scared the shit out of me. Thought it was some gaint bee or something before I spotted it.

Been thinking about building a spark gap jammer (illegal i know) just to f with them if they get too close

Never been too interested in them but know a few who have them and one has several. Uses them to shoot video of coating installations, completed projects, etc. Pretty neat but not my cup of tea

Lol remember the government does fly over people's homes with that so de careful.:thumb:

It was shortly after Christmas so I think it was someone's new toy. Even had a neighbor come over asking if one crashed in my yard or roof. He couldn't find it after it went out of sight and he lost it somehow. Not sure if that one had a camera or not. The second one did for sure.

I have an Aerial Imaging business. I also build, fly and race FPV mini quads. I have my Part 107 Cert. I fly a Phantom 4 Pro+ and am currently building an Octo rig for larger cameras.

Some camera work (won't let me imbed)

I hate those things. Next one I catch in my yard gets the potato gun treatment...

Go for it. Its a $10,000 dollar fine and up to 5 years in prison. A drone is no different in the FAAs eyes than a passenger plane according to Title 18. You don't own the airspace 10' above your property. I can fly whatever I want, wherever I want in Class G airspace.:D :D

I haven't played with an Air yet but the regular Mavic is pretty sweet. I'll share a major trick for aerial video, get some ND Filters for it.

Yeah, its not quite that clear cut and dry. Most of the laws regarding "airspace" where made pre drone age. Land ownership rights are made at the state level and the airspace is generally Controlled at the federal.

Then there is the "reasonable expectation of privacy" laws and Court cases where land owners shot or knocked down a drone over their property and won. Some lost too.

So. Not all of it is as clear as you imply

My house is considered in a no fly zone. Like I said next one I see gets my special potato gun treatment and it's not shooting a potato. It's a violation of privacy when used to film without consent anywhere. It's also illegal to fly in any public spaces in NC, so no beaches or parks. So you can't do what you think you can, be careful, someone like me may know their rights and take out your expensive toy...:D

No it’s pretty cut and dry. Shoot down an FAA registered aircraft and you get a nice fine and possible jail time. I don’t think people should hover over houses but I don’t need anyone’s permission to fly over their house in class G airspace.

People are so ignorant when it comes to drones it’s funny. OMG someone is looking at me! Consumer level drones don’t have zoom capability so for the operator to be spying they would have to be pretty damn close to you. If someone is hovering over you with a $10,000 commercial rig they’re just an asshole. Lol.

It’s not a toy. It’s how I get paid. And all of NC isn’t a no fly zone. Lol
I know the laws dude. I have an FAA part 107 cert to operate commercially. So your house is located within 5 miles of Class B airspace?

Yes, airport where Airforce 1 practices take offs and landings is within 5 miles... I'm not knocking your job, the ones I'm worried about are privately owned and are just assholes spying on people bc they are bored or up to no good looking for things to steal. Not all drone operators are innocent, it's a common practice for thieves to use them to case a place without even getting within a 1/2 mile of it now. So, if I see one over my house I know it's not legally up there and is up to illegal activity..:thumb:
