Has anyone put a complete Dodge AAM 11.5 axle into a Duramax truck? Most of the information I can find is just about swapping the carrier over. I had issues with my current rear end, left it apart for to long and humidly and rust have done a number on it. I figured it would just be better to swap in a good working rear end. For some reason its easier for me to get Dodge rear ends then the Chevy/GMC.

There was a post about this a long time ago.

Iirc the spring plates are in the wrong spot, pinion flange is wrong, axle diameters are larger so have to get spring plates that match, brakes are different and probably more im forgetting.

Didnt really seem like a simple swap

That sound like it would be as much work as rebuilding the current rear end. I was just want to make it more driveable to get it around the shop until I decide its fate. Currently I have a very rare front wheel drive version.

How hard would it be to just clean it up? Can you do a hydrochloric acid wash on it to remove the rust? Put new bearings and diff in it?
