Dented roof ?

I was washing my truck and noticed the roof it’s has some dents .. truck has never seen hail, ice nor snow. I am in south Texas so it’s pretty rare when we see that stuff. Truck is 7 month old. Looks like it was hit by something. Maybe it was done on the Carhauler? The roof is pretty tough on that ridge at the back of the cab.

No it has no chips just the dents, a buddy of mine has a high country and he’s also got it but a lot worse

Same here. I wasn't the idiot, but the owner before me was. Lol

I've walked on mine to get extra height for cutting tree branches. No dents or damage that I can see. Are they made out of thinner steel now?

Really a dent on the ridge like that? It’s pretty strong there, but I’m only 135lbs so I can jump on a roof and barely dent it.lol

My truck has a beauty mark in essentially the same spot. Only person who's ever seen it is me...nobody else has ever noticed it. I figure it gives it character.

Hmm. I was asking for a picture because I was wondering if you had wider tires. I have the same thing on the roof of one of my 08 f250s. No clue how they got there. I will admit that I get on the roof with my knees to wash the top, but am always very conscious of where I am putting my weight. That truck has 15.50 tires on it; the only thing I could figure is a rock flew up and hit it. And no, no one will see it, but I know its there and it bugs the hell out of me.

If it were a fender, Id worry about it. But the roof? Who sees it besides you when you're waxing it? Does it really matter?

How is the quality less? I only tend to see mmore quality in newer vehicles. That’s not to say they are issue free, but all things considered I think the quality goes up most of the time. Things always get more expensive thanks to inflation.

Like body wise, it’s made with cheaper material that looks nicer .

They are trying to get weight back down for fuel economy, so the manufacturers make things as thin as they can and still hit the payload and safety targets. So while the roof is thin, I bet it would hold up in a rollover as well or better than previous years.

I do personally agree that effective quality appears to be down compared to the GMT800 era, but only in some ways. The new door design seals better, has less road noise, etc. But the electronics are more issue prone, IMO. Not just GM, Chrysler's UConnect is having problems right now lol

I wish manufacturers would take more time to polish the user interface software of their cars. But in terms of the mechanical aspects of cars, I agree with Dozerboy, they are getting better, not worse. That doesn't mean they are perfect, or that it is even a better experience overall. (The poor overall experience is why I sold my 2013 Cruze and got a 1998 Pontiac to replace it. Compared to my 2003 2500HD, the 2013 Cruze was a cheaply made glitch factory.)

Lol I don’t even like waxing my truck anymore because I notice all the imperfections! But that’s what happens when you get married with kids... priorities change:thumb:

I think one problem with the dent issue is not so much thinner steel but more flat surface area
If you notice the classic body style has a lot of curve to it compared to the 07.5-up
My dads 12 ram is a serious dent factory! If you breathe to heavy on it you end up with one lol
