Guy I know from my home town built this Dmax truggie for competition. He lives in Montana now, his name in Jeremy Pulse. Most prolly know his company that builds custom bumpers, Throttle Down Kustoms (TDK).

He says it has a custom built LBZ running a GT4202 Don't have a lot of info on it right now. Thought it was pretty cool:cool:

That thing is pretty cool. Is it mid engine with the engine mounted backward? It's hard to tell from the pics which way is the front, but based on what I'm seeing in the second pic, that is how it is setup.

That's a good question Josh, I wish I had some better/closer pics of the motor but right now I am just pulling it off his Facebook page and at the time I don't think he wanted anyone to know what was going in it.

I'll see if I can get some more info

msot guys use a big reverser gear that sits up infront of the driver/passenger. works well in these cars.

Iceman, ask him what made him go with the 4l80e. i jsut dont see that trans ever living to his expectations but maybe he has some tricks i dont know? if he ever gets the shafts to live, clutches/bands are next. Hell i dont even know if a built allison could hold the abuse

I thought the 4l80e's could be built to be tough as hell? I figured no way you would want to try and fit the big heavy Allison in there would you?

Perhaps use a 48re? Several CR Cummins sled pullers use these with manual VB...

what alot of people dont realize is just how hard the desert is on a auto tranny. specially if you have a lock up converter in there. all that loading and unloading of the tires to the ground plays major havoc on parts. its hard enough on a gasser thats pushing 800hp and torque that is less than that. increase that torque by two times the hp and your really gunna tear things up. the 4l80s are not that tough and just wont last behind a dmax, let alone in the desert even with all the goodies in it. it may last a race or two but its gunna need a refresh after then. i wouldnt even run a dodge tranny, i would bet the billet inputs on them would snap at 600hp out there too. shock load is the big killer. an all built billet allison might do it, but i couldnt say if clutches or torque converters would hold. ive been dying to build a dmax desert truck but the trans is whats been holding me back. i know its either gunna cost me a refresh every other race or shits gunna break. A heavy trans is not a worry for these guys. the car already weights in close to or over 4k im sure. i know gieser trucks are right around there. the extra weight wouldnt matter.

I could be wrong and he may get it to work. that would be sweet! but im just going off what i know and 4l80s are not all that great. every one of those front runner Trophy trucks and truggys has a th400 in it and there is a reason. problem is no TC lock up and no overdrive makes it hard for a diesel to get the power out

The 4L80E and a TH400 are very similar. Basically a TH400 with an overdrive and electronic throttle body. Also, I happen to know that the other Duramax powered desert truck that G&J posted about a couple of weeks ago is running a 4L80E with a non-lockup torque converter.
