Breaking fresh engine build in

Beak it in how you want it to run, is what i have always been told. You want a load on the engine and as minimal amount of time not under load as possible. After it idles for a while and nothing is flying apart and it has good oil pressure then take it out and hammer on it, or hook up to a heavy trailer and find some hills to rip up.

A lot of guys are scared to beat on a new engine in fear of something coming apart, truth is, if something was gonna go wrong it would happen no matter what.

Either once I get the compounds tuned, or about 500 miles or the first time I change the oil I plan on hooking up to my dad's 40ft goosneck and take it for a drive up in the mountains.

I've been told to reach 5 gear on the highway and roll into the throttle intermittently to put load on the engine. That's my plan. Going to maybe do a few oil changes right off the bat just to be safe and be rid of the assembly lube.....that is, if this build gets done:confused:

what ever you do, dont run at a consistant RPM. you must vary your RPM quite a bit under load. Im pretty sure this was my issue when i broke mine in and never got my rings to fully seat

I let mine idle to operating temp shut off and changed oil. Drove it 400 miles and changed it again. I'm at 550 now and gunna change it at 800. I've only gone wot like 3-4 times but varied the rpm a lot. I have zero blow by now. And not eating any oil.

on all my motor I take the truck up in the mountains for about 3-500 miles varying the load and rpm then I take it to the track on a small-medium tune. around 800-1000 miles is when ill start really letting it eat.

Took mine our after letting it warm up on a 500rwhp tune and let it eat lol had 1/2mile on it and went wot from 0-90 then the truck slow itself down did that a few times then drove it around town so rpms varied for bout 500 miles changed the oil. 53k mikes later its got a bent rod but everything else is good lol

i had less the 30 mile on the truck when i hooked it back to the load it split a piston on
7x8' 9,000lb load grossing the trailer just under 16,000lb

James didn't you also in synthetic from day 1 as well? My engine builder said big no-no when I asked about that.

Well I babied the hell out of mine for 200 miles then started getting after it on 1400us on 100 overs. Been running same tune since.

Sure did. Forgot about that. Running regular oil has already helped blow by as well. Nobody has any difinitive answers on running synthetic right after a 500 mile break in. It was 50/50 in the reading I found. I definitely attribute part of my issue to goin to synthetics so soon. I think I had a bad combo that all lead to my issue

Well seems I have a checklist most agree on...

1) Run regular non synthetic oil for a while.
2) Quick and frequent oil changes can't hurt
3) City driving with much RPM fluctuation up and down is best, no cruise control highway driving.
4) Trailer towing will also help put needed load on the engine.
