Against my better judgment, see also - wife disapproval, I brought home an 03, cab and chassis with 278k. Obviously, LB7, but not so obvious is the ZF 6 speed.

Truck is in OK shape for being near 23 years old, but needs some help in the beauty department. Little rust spot on the cab above the windshield and a couple popping up on the doors. Rockers are in good shape, and the truck is pretty solid all around.

Shifts good, recently rebuilt transmission, but does fall out of 4th gear. Seems to be a bushing issue as it goes into gear fine, but falls out unless you hold it.

Cannot tell for sure if the DMF is newish or if it is still even the DMF. The junk man I bought it from has only had it a year or so and wasn’t able to tell me much about the clutch. It was previously a parts runner for a machine shop. Miles seem to be mostly highway, and I know the shop so I just need to give them a call and see what info they have on it.

Headliner is shot so the cab is NOISY. I have ordered a new headliner, just waiting on the glue to show up so I can get it fixed. Might throw down some matting in cab and floor while I have it all apart.

Truck runs good overall. I forgot how much I loved the LB7 sound, first thing I did was chop off the muffler and throw on some 06 style tow mirrors I had kicking around.

Has an exhaust brake system, works OK empty, and did well when I had the horse trailer hooked up and a couple of brumbies in the back.

I will get some pics posted up and hopefully get a half assed “build“ (are these still a thing?) going.

I do have a question, has anyone installed a Fass, or hell, an Airdog on a C&C truck? A little help would be awesome. I have a Fass that I’ve had in the box for going on two years and want to put it on.

Wondering where in the hell to mount the thing. Do the older C&C trucks’ tanks work like the newer C&C? I.E. the back tank pumping to the front tank?

I have a sump, could it be mounted on the front tank and I figure out a spot for the lift pump and all be well?

Not quite privy with the C&C quite yet.

Yes, the rear tank transfers to the front tank. If you already have a sump, that’ll be fine to use. Do you have a flat bed or are your tanks exposed? On my Kodiak, I tied right into the sending unit with a 90* fitting. Air Dog sells different fittings. I also had a 3rd port capped off on the sending unit that I sent the lift pump return into.

That little tune on the right is where I tied the return into. If your sending unit is the same.

It has a flatbed on it now. Would I T into the filler neck of the front filler neck or rear filler neck for the return?

The front filler neck. Always work off the front tank. Even putting fuel in it if only filling one tank.

The only reason I default to the rear tank is because, at work, have a 15.5 C&C that we have had HELL with. It has never been right since we bought it and it only seems to like the rear tank getting filled full, then topping off the front. I always did that with my 18 L5P C&C as well and never had any issues, but thank you for the advice. Is there a good spot on the tank for the sump?

I used to have an 8.1L Cab & chassis and I was always told fill the front tank and then the back one. Also never leave the truck running and filling it at the same time.

I always filled my front tank on my Kodiak and the rear for long trips. The front tank will only read 3/4 full with an empty rear. Curious if the light duties and medium duties are different.

Who the hell knows.

Any thoughts to the 4th gear pop out issue? I may take the shifter off this weekend and see what the hell

Little headliner repair this afternoon. I am going to add in some insulation to the cab. I need to remove the spare tire from over the cab. I think it’s the cause of the wind noise in the cab.

Headliner didn’t turn out that great. I bought a cheapo off of Amazon that was a pain the Aston keep from getting wrinkly. Will have to redo it, not a bid deal as taking it out of a regular cab isn’t bad. Working on PS leaks and performance. I have the 6 bolt Cardone(??) from rock auto that I will put in. Ive had it for a couple years just collecting dust.

Got the Fass installed. Not much room on the reg cabs to mount it, and had to get a little creative with the lines into and out of the pump, but got it done.

The truck has a weird stumble/miss when warm and rolling into the throttle. Need to hook up the V2 and do something on logging to see what it could be, no CEL. I did have to put a new crank position sensor in a couple days ago as it wouldn’t run for more than a few minutes at a time.

If your pressure is too high it can cause that. Try turning it down slightly

It was doing that before the lift pump. Had a weird stall issue too. Would shut off then, crank a liiiiiitle longer, then start.

I am looking hard at the filter head being the culprit at the moment.

Good call. It seems like an air issue at the filter head. No codes, DFRP and AFRP are spot on. It only will do it once it’s warm. The stall thing had me leaning towards the filter head. I’m half tempted to delete it, but the extra filter doesn’t hurt anything.

Added a Cardone “6 Bolt” steering box and Driven Diesel power steering lines on Saturday. As you can see, the old box was far past weeping. Steering was still tight, but the drops of fluid were grinding my gears. I haven’t driven the truck yet as the hot side intercooler pipe has a hole in It down by the intercooler. Have an HSP hot side pipe on order.
