01 2 wheel drive

My son found an 01 and the guy said it was tapping/knocking with possible white smoke 2 years ago when they parked it. I know about the injectors and am more than capable of fixing anything on it. My question is because it's an 01 is it worth trying to get and fix. It's $2500 the reason I just work on them and not own one is I have always been afraid I couldn't afford it when it broke. I can get the whole set of injectors for $1600 from my son who works at the dealer and I have pistons, rods, heads and lots of other parts off Blackie which is an 04 just asking opinions because it's the 01

What kind of shape is the truck in overall? Would the truck be worth the $4100 to you when done? If so, go for it. An LB7 is an LB7 no matter the year.

What configuration? How many doors? Is it in good shape rust and dent wise? Interior clean? Base model or LS? I would scoop it probably without hesitation. Especially since you have the knowledge to fix it and have access to spare parts.

Haven't got pics yet it's supposed to only have 127,000 on it. Starter is bad and the batteries were dead anyway. I have just seen several horror stories on 01's and just not sure. Hate to buy a money pit but then again if I can make it run the trans is worth more than I will pay for the truck if it's as good as they claim

Sorry for slow response this is my first time actually using tap talk on my phone for more than just a short reply lol. It's a 01 red 4 door 2 wheel drive long bed. Black cloth interior in surprisingly good shape someone stole the PCM TCM and BCM so he got used ones from Cali and the wheels are FUGLY but I have the factory chrome ones for it with caps

well we bought it. Needs a starter just to see if I can start it to see whats wrong with it:thumb: and it's not 123,000 its 183,000 got the batterys up so we could see.:rofl: Well, here we go:woott:

Swapped in a borrowed starter charged the batteries and before I could say anything my son cranked it a few times got oil pressure and the damn thing fired right up-with 2 year old fuel still in it but it runs good and has this tapping sound that increases and decreases in tone on the pass side and it goes with a miss too so maybe a bent push rod/bad rocker that would be great has the white smoke and smell of unburned fuel so maybe:thumb:

Ok. Number 3 was not hitting checked rates and it was 15.0 lol. Replaced it with new GM injector and now I can kill that cylinder and "feel" a change but the rate is still 15.0 and it sounds like a bad lifter high time knock. Doesn't sound like a bearing knock and it smokes like a train at idle any ideas? Bad piston? Next will do compression but it cranks over and fires smoothly it sound like it is going full fuel like when you leave the ground wire off a dual dueler setup

No. But it started to get random and then squeak as well so I figured it has some stacked bearings on #3 and broke piston. We will get it apart over Christmas break and go from there

Well I played with it some more last night and tried to "clear" it out a little. The tapping sound started to go away and then come back lightly then louder then go away again, also noted at 1400-1800 rpm when the tapping goes away the whole thing "shudders" my guess is now going to be a broke crank :woott: the only thing I DONT have spare it seems:roflmao: I have pistons, rods, pushrods, gaskets, heads, flywheel/flexplate, balancer, glow plugs you name it I have a spare except for a crank! Maybe I am wrong but it acts and sounds like Blackie did minus the front part walking around wiping out the front seal and all that haha. Oh well, I will keep you informed, everyone have Merry Christmas and a safe New Year!!

I have seen the cranks break at the back. They don't always break up front like most have posted.....
