No vacations for spring break. My goddaughter's graduating Out-of-state around Labor Day so we'll be out of town for that. Then 2 weeks in Florida for my daughter's Taekwondo nationals. I didn't know when I let my daughter take part in TKD that I'd be giving up my vacation every year to go to nationals. Oh well it doesn't last forever and I do enjoy Florida.

Three weeks from today I'm doing a bucket list item. The wife and I are doing a 7 day inward passage Alaskan cruise. It's been planned for four months. Can't wait.

I've told my wife many times that is the only cruise I will ever go on in my life. I had a friend that went and he fell in love with Alaska so much he actually moved there. He back now through work needed him back in town. He kind of Kicks himself for not staying but for what he makes its worth it....

I doubt we'll be going anywhere this year.

On a side note, gave away all 10 cases of our Mom's sheet music today. It had been sitting in our basement for 6 years, and it was time for it to go to someone else, whether they use or sell it is no matter.

In my 20 years in the navy I never got to Germany.

FIL was in the army in the 70’s and was stationed there for 2 years. He wanted to make a trip back there with us and my BIL so we are making it happen.

Last couple days we will be by the nurburgring, got on a waiting list to hopefully go around the track as co pilots. My BIL is big car/performance guy like me so that would be a bucket list item for sure!

Just last week the wife and I took our first cruise. She’s never been to Canada so I found a 5 day that went to Victoria and Vancouver out of L.A.. We did a zip line in Victoria (Sooke). Got a hotel for a couple nights in Vancouver and went to a spot they film (exterior shots) of Virgin River. Jacks bar in the show, The Watershed in real life. There is a few more places they shoot there but didn’t have time to see them.
I would like to do an Alaskan one next. She wants to go somewhere warm lol.

Well last month I was chasing the issue on my fuel pumps. Turned out to be the relay 100. Later all is good. I also bought Johns pressure gauge that connects to the test port to check on my pumps. They are at 7.5-8.0 psi. Both are working! Also helps in checking filter life.

Roni and I went over to son's house today to celebrate DIL's birthday and also to help him replace the brakes and O2 sensor on his car. Who knew that 2019 Malibu Hybrid brake jobs suck ass like that? Couldnt put car into brake service mode easily, and that may have contributed to the new brake module codes he now has, which make no sense bc the brakes are working as they should. They may be related to the battery, as its never been replaced and could be putting out too low voltage. I didnt have time to sit there and run thru every possible diagnostic.

He was also showing an O2 sensor code, which I told him might not be the O2 sensor but something else. He replaced the sensor with a new GM one, and upon start up, the car threw new P0171 and P015B codes. Those direct to a bunch of other things, including a blown PCV valve membrane in the $350 valve cover. (Hey Adam......)

I told him to suck it up and take the car into a trusted shop and have the codes properly diagnosed and repaired. This is literally the first work he's had to do on the car since he bought it 7 years ago, so he really shouldnt complain.

1) Interesting little tidbit about doing rear brakes on a GM car with electric parking brake: If you cant put it into "brake service mode" then disconnect the battery before twisting the caliper piston in. Thats not in any write up or manual that I found, but thats what the tech told my son. Go f-ing figure. Ive done two cars with the EPB before and didnt have codes come up after.
2) P0171 and P015B points to blown out PCV diaphragm, just like I thought it might be. Its not supposed to be as pervasive an issue on NA engines, but it does happen. Tech said there is a "massive" vacuum leak. I got the "Yeah Dad, you were right" from my son.

So...he was quoted $2400 to reprogram EPBM and to replace the valve cover (its an 6-8hr job). Car should be ready Friday.

At the end of the month I’m taking my 10yr old boy up to Southwest Montana to ride some trails, check out some mines and shoot some gophers all week. It will be his first year going with me and he’s been learning to shoot so we’ll have some fun. Also first road trip with the truck since its rebuild was finished.

Don't have anything specific planned. I have 180hrs. built up ready to use. But two problems. I lost my backup maintenance guy due to medical issues. And my GF doesn't have much hours built up yet.

But on the wish list is: Yosemite, yellow stone, glacier NP, and a few smaller ones I'd like to do that are closer. I want to hit the hot springs in NV again and maybe grand canyon from another rim. But could be a while
