Thats interesting. I wonder how close your shocks are to bottoming out. I think they also changed the NTBD bracket at some point too but i could be wrong?

he should have the specific shocks Russ was talking about so they give you all the travel the kit allows before bottoming out. ive been in his truck and have yet to feel it bottom out over g-outs or decent sized bumps.

thats why i suggested 2" shorter shocks to make your truck ride right. OR buy the bilsteins to the kit but they arent the greatest at controlling front end rise at the track. their valving wasnt designed for that.

i feel like we are over complicating this issue in the thread. Russ's point is that the lift was never designed to go this low due to many different factors. Same reason when you lower a stock truck, you run into these same issues. we start needing to bandaid the problems to make what we are using work around us. but these are just band aids. if you ever lift the truck back up, the shorter shocks will become an issue. i would bet your UCA ball joint angle isnt the happiest either at the current ride height.

I called Cognito, Kyle there told me that from what he could remember off the top of his head the dimensions on the Bilsteins were actually a fair amount to long (longer than what i already have) Youre right, Russ made the point that this lift isnt made to do this.. So its time to improvise not give up. I love my truck, and i love the ability to do 4x4 launches without messing with the suspension every time. So far i can not find a shorter shock, but i am still looking. And i have heard the same thing about the bilsteins not being the best at the track. ** The ball joint angles are actually very good upper and lower.

Not removing the lift Rancelot LOL

I think its not as radical as maybe im making it seem. Its not much lower than with stock keys and no bolts.

thats good on the ball joint angles cause 4wd launches will eat the UCA ball joint if its angled poorly.

Give me the extended and collapsed measurments of your shock now. leaving the top bolted in or measuring from the top of the bottom grommet, pull the tape measure down to the center of the eye hole at the bottom of the shock. let me see what i can find you :D

Hey Nick, Looks like i may be at a loss here. Ive done my fair share of searching on Rancho/Fox/Monroe sites for a shock that would allow enough travel (Over 4 in) and be less than 10in collapsed and it looks like there isnt any. Whats your thoughts on this predicament? I havent had a chance to test the bottom out theory since i installed the taller jouncers.

Sorry I don't like pm's so ill bring it here so everyone can learn and understand where this trucks set up is.

You have 2 different circumstances,
1- your ride height is too low
2- your trying to find a shock that doesn't exist as a normal cross over fitment. Cognito designed the NTBD bracketry for their 4" lift and then had the shocks made to fit the mounting points. Because the extension to compression is not like a normal measurement seen on other lift kits Cognito has the shocks proprietarly manufactured through Fox and Bilstein. You will only find the exact spec shock from Cognito and or Cognito dealer. You can find the listed part numbers on cognito's web site so you can purchase from a dealer like NCT. I'm sure something maybe out there close but if you limit the travel you could see other reflecting issues.... Like your reason of first posting.

If I remember correctly Steven has pretty much what you would be looking to do for the same reasons. I understand you are trying to make this work as you are predicting but if you want results you need to use product that matches plus set the suspension within the designed measurements.

As Russ suggested, look up "tuckerdog" twin turbo LMM I built years back either on NCT YouTube or Dieselplace forum. It's on 33"s also, I get that you don't want too much space between the fender and tires so I'd suggest 35" tires to get that look you want.

Hope all this translates and helps you, probably not what you want to hear but it's good info and will lead you in the direction of results you deserve.

Well... It sounds like aside from getting lucky and finding the shock I want I'll have to depend on the jouncer I'm running now and hope for not a wagon wheel ride(which it doesn't seem to have ). Brand new 33s as well. It is what it is. Chevy I'll get that measurement for you for the heck of it. Thanks for the response nick.

Found a few photos to compare to.

For reference it is the Cognito 4"-6" NTBD (Non-Torsion Bar Drop) lift.

Here is with the standard 1.5" rear blocks and stock keys (no overload springs):

Here is with the 2" lowering keys, and 1.5" blocks still in the back (no overload springs):

Here is the most recent photo I have that shows the rear ride height with the blocks out (no overload springs either):

 what happens when it hits a bump and compresses?

I dont do any crazy off-roading with it, and nothing on the street has ever caused it to do anything I felt was bad.

I guess I dont really know! The little bracket that the bump bolts to isnt in there either.
